Peyton Manning and Tom Brady won't be running the read-option anytime soon, but one quarterback who might is Jay Cutler

First-year Bears coach Marc Trestman has been been tinkering with the team's offense and that tinkering has included some read-option, "Whether we'll do it, I don't know. We've studied it," Trestman said, via the Chicago Tribune.

Cutler is one of only eight quarterbacks in the NFL that has rushed for over 1,000 yards since 2006. Trestman thinks the 30-year-old Cutler can run the read-option if that's something the Bears decide to do.

"Jay has the skill set to do just about everything, anything," Trestman said. "We are trying to give him the things he has had the most success with first.

Bears backup quarterback Josh McCown also thinks Cutler has the tools to run the read-option, "There is no question Jay is athletic enough. All three of us could get it done if we needed to," McCown said, referring to himself, Cutler and No. 3 quarterback Matt Blanchard

Of course, the Bears might need to implement the read-option if for no other reason then to give their defense some looks. The Bears went 1-2 against teams that ran the read-option last season, including a 32-7 loss to San Francisco in Colin Kaepernick's first career start.

"It's going to have to be a part of [the offense] a little bit because we are going to have to give our defense looks on it because it's so successful in our league," McCown said.

As for Cutler, the only active quarterbacks with more than his 1,116 rushing yards since 2006 are Michael Vick, Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Fitzpatrick
