Top Eric Reid News

  • Eric Reid: Cut loose by Carolina

The Panthers are releasing Reid on Wednesday, Jeff Darlington of ESPN reports.

It's a surprise cut after Reid notched 130 tackles and four sacks in 2019, the first season of a three-year, $22 million contract. Granted, the tackle numbers were inflated by Carolina's ineptitude defending the run, and Reid drew brutal marks from Pro Football Focus for his work in pass coverage -- a 36.1 grade to be exact. The longer track record is solid but unspectacular, so Reid should have another shot at a starting job soon enough.

  • Panthers' Eric Reid: Enjoys career-best campaign

Reid, who made 11 tackles in Sunday's 42-10 loss to the Saints, finishes up the 2019 season with 130 stops (97 solo), four sacks, two fumble recoveries and one fumble forced in 16 games played.

Reid joined the Panthers early last season but took his production to a whole other level in his first full campaign with the team. Compared to his previous career high of 77 tackles, Reid's 130 this season smashed that haul, ranking 12th league-wide and second among safeties. Reid's four sacks also marked a personal best, and although he didn't manage any interceptions, he still defended six passes, maintaining his career average in the category. After signing a three-year extension last February, Reid figures to remain a staple of Carolina's defense in 2020, when his most recent production should significantly elevate his fantasy stock from the start.

  • Panthers' Eric Reid: Piles up six tackles in loss

Reid recorded six tackles (five solo) during Sunday's 38-6 loss to the Colts.

Reid has compiled a career-high 119 tackles across 15 games this season while playing an every-down role in Carolina's secondary. The veteran safety will look to close out 2019 strong against the explosive Saints offense Week 17.

  • Panthers' Eric Reid: Upgrades to full practice

Reid (shoulder) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Reid didn't practice Wednesday, but he's now resumed operating without limitations. The veteran safety has regularly received rest days due to a lingering shoulder injury, but he's yet to miss a game or play less than 95 percent of snaps on defense. He's set to draw his usual start in Indianapolis on Sunday.

  • Panthers' Eric Reid: Unable to practice Wednesday

Reid (shoulder) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Reid dealt with a shoulder issue earlier this season, but he hasn't been listed on the injury report with a shoulder injury over the last two weeks. Despite the assortment of injuries Reid has sustained this year, the veteran safety hasn't missed a game. There's no indication he's in danger of sitting out Sunday versus the Colts, but he'll first need to get on the practice field by Friday.

  • Panthers' Eric Reid: Tallies six solo tackles in loss

Reid made six solo tackles in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks.

That qualifies as an off-game for Reid, who had not posted fewer than eight since Week 6. The 28-year-old currently has 113 on the season, blowing away his previous career high of 77 set in his rookie year.

  • Panthers' Eric Reid: Ready to face Seahawks

Reid (illness) is active for Sunday's contest against the Seahawks.

Reid was a late addition to the injury report, but he's managed to overcome his illness and is on track to take the field against Seattle on Sunday. The starting strong safety will play his usual pivotal role in Carolina's secondary.
