  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Efficient in starting role

Trubisky completed four of seven pass attempts for 63 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions while rushing once for four yards during the Steelers' 32-25 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday.

Trubisky began Saturday's preseason opener under center and worked with the first-team offense for the first two drives of the game. While the 2017 first-rounder had the least volume of the three Steelers quarterbacks during the victory, he was efficient with his opportunities and connected with receiver Gunner Olszewski for a touchdown on the game's opening drive. Trubisky has appeared to be the most likely starting quarterback early in camp, and his usage and performance Saturday seemed to help his case.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Set to start Saturday

Trubisky will start Saturday's preseason opener against the Seahawks.

Per Alan Saunders of PittsburghSportsNow.com, Trubisky -- the favorite to be the Steelers' Week 1 starting QB -- will be followed in the contest by Mason Rudolph and then Kenny Pickett. Meanwhile, Missi Matthews of the team's official site relays via coach Mike Tomlin that Pittsburgh's starters figure to play about a quarter Saturday, while the second unit is in line to play in the second and third quarters, followed by the third stringers in the fourth quarter.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Pulling ahead in QB competition

Trubisky is trending toward winning the Steelers' starting quarterback job, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Trubisky has had his fair share of struggles early in camp, but he's still spent most of his time with the first-team offense ahead of Pittsburgh's first preseason game Saturday against the Seahawks. While Mason Rudolph has performed better than expected and Kenny Pickett is showing improvement as camp progresses, Rapoport reports that Trubisky will "almost certainly" start under center for the Steelers' regular-season opener against Cincinnati on Sept. 11. The team's quarterback competition remains open, and it's certainly possible that Pickett sees some looks at some point after Pittsburgh selected him in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but Trubisky seems to be gaining the trust of the coaching staff with just over a month left before the start of the regular season.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Likely frontrunner for starting job

Trubisky has been treated like the favorite to serve as the Steelers' starting quarterback early in training camp, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.

Trubisky has received consistent reps with the first-team offense over the first week of camp, and he worked exclusively with the starters Thursday while Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett split reps between the second-team and third-team offenses, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Coach Mike Tomlin has told reporters not to read too much into the distribution of reps among the team's quarterbacks early in camp, but Trubisky has certainly been given plenty of opportunities to showcase his potential. The 2017 first-rounder has been inconsistent while learning a new system and dealing with absences of key offensive skill players, but the team has still entrusted him with a meaningful workload. Rudolph and Pickett should continue to compete with Trubisky throughout training camp and the preseason, but Trubisky appears to be the frontrunner for the starting job with just over a month remaining until the regular season.
