  • Texans' Shaquill Griffin: Double-digit tackles Sunday

Griffin recorded 10 tackles (seven solo) in Sunday's 37-17 win at Jacksonville.

Griffin stepped in as a starter only after Derek Stingley (hamstring) was placed on Houston's injured reserve list, and he made the most of his expanded role off the bat. He tied for the team lead in tackles in Week 3, and at least for now looks like a worthy fill-in for his injured teammate.

  • Texans' Shaquill Griffin: Stepping in as starter

Griffin is expected to take over the Texans' starting role at left cornerback with Derek Stingley (hamstring) placed on IR on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston reports.

Stingley's injury is considered a serious one, and he's expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks. Griffin is thus slated to be the next man up at outside corner, where he has plenty of experience over a seven-year career that includes a Pro Bowl berth while with Seattle in 2019. The 28-year-old was released by Jacksonville this past March after injuries limited him to just five games last season, but he appears fully healthy now despite dealing with a back injury during OTAs in June.

  • Texans' Shaquill Griffin: Healthy again

Griffin (back) was seen breaking up a pass at Texans camp Thursday, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Griffin missed some of OTAs with a back issue but has since had time to get past the issue. The veteran cornerback joined Houston this offseason after four years in Seattle and two in Jacksonville. Throughout his career, the Central Florida product has recorded 327 tackles, 59 pass breakups and six interceptions. Expect the one-time Pro Bowler to start alongside second-year corner Derek Stingley ahead of the coming season.

  • Texans' Shaquill Griffin: Dealing with back issue

Griffin didn't participate Tuesday at OTAs due to a back injury, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The severity of the issue is unclear, but further information should become available as the offseason progresses. Griffin signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Texans in May and when healthy should compete with Steven Nelson for the starting corner spot opposite Derek Stingley (hamstring) in Houston's secondary.

  • Texans' Shaquill Griffin: Links up with Houston

Griffin signed a one-year contract with the Texans on Saturday, Jordan Schultz of reports.

The deal could see the corner make $4.5 million based on meeting certain incentives. Griffin signed a massive contract with the Jaguars back in 2021, but the 27-year-old never lived up to the hype and ended his final season with the team playing just five games due to various injuries. Expect Griffin to compete with Steven Nelson for the starting outside cornerback role opposite 2022 high draft pick, Derek Stingley (hamstring).

  • Shaquill Griffin: Let go by Jacksonville

The Jaguars released Griffin on Wednesday, Jordan Schultz of reports.

As expected, Griffin and the Jaguars have officially parted ways following his two-season stint in North Florida. A 2019 Pro Bowl selection, Griffin appeared in just five games this past campaign due to a combination of hip and back injuries. Despite his injury-marred stint in Jacksonville, the 27-year-old's track record could still make him one of the more sought-after cornerbacks in free agency.

  • Jaguars' Shaquill Griffin: Jaguars looking to move on

The Jaguars are expected to release or trade Griffin (back) in the near future, Jeremy Fowler of reports.

Griffin is well-regarded as a cover corner in the league, but he managed to play in only five games in 2022 due to a combination of hip and back injuries. Further, the Jaguars will save $13.1 million in cap space by releasing him, a cap hit that may also deter other teams from trading for him. If Griffin hits free agency, he's likely to be among the most coveted corners on the market.

  • Jaguars' Shaquill Griffin: Should be cleared for OTAs

Griffin (back) is expected to be cleared in two to three weeks, Demetrius Harvey of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Griffin was placed on IR in Week 8 of the regular season and missed the remainder of the campaign after undergoing back surgery. It appears he's close to a return and should be 100 percent for OTAs this summer, but his future with the team is in limbo given Jacksonville's need for cap space. Griffin has one year remaining on the three-year deal he signed with the Jaguars ahead of the 2021 campaign. Across 19 appearances with Jacksonville, he's totaled 78 tackles, 11 pass defenses and one forced fumble.
