Panthers' Brian Burns: Expected to be at minicamp
Burns hasn't been in attendance during Carolina's OTA sessions, but he's expected to be present for minicamp, Joe Person of The Athletic repots.
The Panthers recently exercised the fifth-year option on Burns' rookie contract and are expected to negotiate a possible extension with the pass rusher during the season. The No. 16 overall pick in 2019 has 25.5 sacks and six forced fumbles through his first three seasons in the NFL.

Panthers' Brian Burns: Will stick in Carolina through 2023
Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer said Friday that the Panthers will pick up the fifth-year option on Burns' rookie contract, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Fitterer added that Burns is the kind of player -- like DJ Moore and Donte Jackson -- that the Panthers want to build around, and by locking him down through the 2022-23 campaign, that's exactly what they plan to do. This move is a no-brainer, as the 2019 No. 16 overall pick has 25.5 sacks and six forced fumbles through his first three seasons in the NFL.

Panthers' Brian Burns: Goose egg in finale
Burns didn't make a tackle in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Buccaneers.
Burns played over 75 percent of Carolina's defensive snaps but was blanked in the tackle column. Although it was an anti-climactic end to his campaign, Burns nonetheless enjoyed another impressive season, finishing with 50 tackles, nine sacks and two fumbles forced while playing all 17 games. That production helped earn him his first Pro Bowl selection, and with 25.5 sacks over his first three years in the league, the 23-year-old could aim for a lucrative extension prior to 2022. Whether that transpires or not, Burns is an ascending talent and should be a key figure in the Panthers' defensive plans going forward.
