49ers' Nick Bosa: Ruled out for Week 4
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Bosa (calf) won't play this coming Sunday against the Broncos, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
After Bosa strained his calf at practice last Thursday, Shanahan told Matt Barrows of The Athletic that the pass rusher would miss "a few weeks," so a second consecutive absence in Week 4 comes as no surprise. The 49ers started Ogbo Okoronkwo and Keion White at defensive end during Sunday's win versus the Cardinals and likely will continue to lean on the duo until Bosa is able to return to action.

49ers' Nick Bosa: Won't play Sunday
Bosa (calf) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said that Bosa is expected to miss "a few weeks" with a calf issue, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. It is unclear if Bosa will need to miss the minimum of four games that placement on IR would require. Even if he must miss more than four games, the team may not place the 28-year-old on IR anyway because it has almost reached its limit of eight designated-to-return players.

49ers' Nick Bosa: Injures calf, likely out multiple weeks
Bosa injured his calf during Thursday's practice and is expected to miss "a few weeks," according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Schefter reports that the 49ers aren't yet sure if Bosa will go on injured reserve. Either way, he's apparently set to miss multiple games, leaving a top-heavy roster without one of its superstars.

It's the second day in a row in which Bosa has been held out of practice due to knee and calf injuries. His practice participation Friday will provide more clarity on his status ahead of Sunday's NFC West showdown against the Cardinals. Romello Height (hand) is also working through an injury, so Ogbo Okoronkwo and Khalid Kareem could operate in expanded roles against Arizona, depending on the statuses of both Bosa and Height.

Bosa made four tackles (three solo) in the 49ers' 27-7 Week 1 victory over the Rams.
Bosa showed out as a run defender during his first game back from an ACL injury that he suffered in Week 3 of the 2025 season. The defensive end didn't notch a sack in the Week 1 contest, but he was a strong presence on the edge against the Rams' run and pass game. The 28-year-old played 59 percent of the defensive snaps, in line with the other starters on the team's defensive line.

Bosa was limited in Tuesday's practice as he finishes recovering from ACL surgery. The defensive end is healthy and all set to suit up for the Week 1 divisional showdown with the Rams. Bosa is nearly a full year out from ACL surgery, and defensive coordinator Raheem Morris has already said the star defensive end will play in Thursday's season opener against the Rams. Bosa has played only 17 regular-season games over the last two seasons combined, but the 28-year-old recorded 11.0 sacks in those contests.
