Top Tremon Smith News

  • Texans' Tremon Smith: Clear for Monday

Smith (personal) does not have an injury designation ahead of Monday's game against the Seahawks, per the NFL's transaction log.

Smith did not practice Friday but returned to action one day later. He should work primarily on special teams.

  • Texans' Tremon Smith: Misses practice Friday

Smith (personal) did not practice Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

There's no word on the nature of the issue or whether it will affect Smith's availability for Monday's matchup against Seattle. Assuming Smith can suit up, he'll contribute primarily on special teams.

  • Broncos' Tremon Smith: Signs on with Broncos

The Broncos agreed to terms with Smith on a two-year contract Wednesday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.

Listed as a defensive back, Smith rarely plays defense and makes his hay as a special teamer and return man. The Broncos will be his fifth team since he entered the league as a sixth-rounder with the Chiefs in 2018. Smith has one career kickoff return touchdown.

  • Texans' Tremon Smith: Steps up for depleted secondary

Smith recorded 11 tackles (seven solo), one pass defended and a forced fumble in Sunday's 30-24 overtime loss against Kansas City.

Smith stepped up in place of starting cornerback Steven Nelson, who was inactive Sunday after suffering a foot/knee injury during Week 16's loss to Dallas. This led the backup cornerback to play every defensive snap for the first time this season, and he was one of four Texans defenders to notch double-digit tackles against Kansas City. Smith exclusively played on special teams over the first 12 games of the season, and it's likely he'll revert back to this role after Nelson returned to practice in full Tuesday.

  • Texans' Tremon Smith: Two picks in loss

Smith had three tackles and two interceptions in Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Cowboys in Week 14.

More noted for his value as a kickoff returner, Smith's work on defense made a big impact on what could have been a rare Houston win. His first pick set up a 28-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and the second one put the team in business at the Dallas four-yard line late in the fourth. That could have sealed the deal for Houston, but the offense was unable to convert the opportunity into points, and Dallas went on to score the game-winning touchdown. The two interceptions were the first of Smith's career.
