  • Jesus Sanchez DH | ARI

Blue Jays' Jesus Sanchez: Swats first homer since return

Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's extra-inning win over the Astros.

His sixth-inning homer off Hunter Brown tied the game at 3-3, setting the stage for the Blue Jays' victory in the 10th. It was Sanchez's first long ball in four games since coming off the IL, and he's settling back in as the top option in left field against right-handed pitching. On the season, the 28-year-old is slashing .270/.313/.438 through 77 contests with eight homers, one steal, 12 runs and 32 RBI.

  • A.J. Ewing CF | NYM

Mets' A.J. Ewing: Getting breather Thursday

Ewing is absent from the lineup for Thursday's tilt in Cleveland.

Ewing is in a 5-for-27 slide at the dish over his last six games, so he'll get a break Thursday to regroup. Cristian Pache will play left field as the Mets go for the sweep.

  • Steven Kwan LF | CLE

Guardians' Steven Kwan: Taking seat Thursday

Kwan is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Mets.

Kwan had started each of the previous 10 tilts, but he will get some rest Thursday as the Guardians try to avoid being swept. Angel Martinez will cover left field and Petey Halpin will be in center field for Cleveland.

  • Jo Adell RF | CLE

Guardians' Jo Adell: Exiting starting nine

Adell is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Mets.

Adell has gone 2-for-9 with a 2:3 BB:K in his first two games since joining the Guardians. He will get a breather during Thursday's matinee, as Cleveland will go with Chase DeLauter in right field and Travis Bazzana at designated hitter.

  • Wilyer Abreu RF | BOS

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Powering up in August

Abreu went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the White Sox.

If it seems like Abreu homers every game, that's because he's gone deep in three consecutive contests. He's 6-for-11 with four home runs (all solo) in those three games. Abreu is up to 20 home runs, the second straight year he's hit that mark.

  • Brandon Nimmo RF | TEX

Rangers' Brandon Nimmo: Leads offense in win

Nimmo went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Giants.

Nimmo had a run-scoring single as part of a four-run third inning and then belted a solo home run in the fifth. It was the 12th homer of the season for Nimmo, who's found a groove thus far in August while going 9-for-18 with two home runs and four RBI in the first five games of the month.

  • Noelvi Marte RF | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: In lineup against lefty

Marte started in right field and went 1-for-2 with a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Athletics.

Marte singled and scored in the second inning before driving in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. He returned to the lineup after being held out against a right-hander Tuesday, when the Reds used rookie call-up Hector Rodriguez in right field. The left-handed batting Rodriguez is considered a top prospect in the organization and could emerge as the strong side of a platoon in right field while Spencer Steer (wrist) is on the injured list. After an initial burst of production when recalled in June (.913 OPS in 12 games), Marte's bat has languished since with a .173/.212/.296 slash line over 30 games since June 22.

  • Jordan Lawlar CF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Swipes bag in rehab game

Lawlar (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in a rehab game Wednesday with Double-A Amarillo.

Lawlar, who played six innings in center field Tuesday in the first game of his rehab assignment, was given a break from defense but remained in the Amarillo lineup Wednesday at designated hitter. He showed that his strained right hamstring wasn't an issue in the sixth inning, when he stole second base and scored the game-tying run on single. The Diamondbacks will likely re-evaluate Lawlar on Thursday before determining his next steps, but if he isn't activated from the injured list, he'll likely continue his rehab assignment this weekend with Amarillo or another affiliate.

  • Padres' Fernando Tatis: Homers late in loss

Tatis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 10-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Tatis got the Padres on the board in the ninth inning, but the deficit was too much to overcome. The outfielder had slipped back into a power drought lately -- he went 12 contests without a homer prior to Wednesday, batting just .234 in that span. For the season, he's hitting .280 with a .751 OPS, nine homers, 50 RBI, 59 runs scored, 26 stolen bases, 23 doubles and two triples over 113 games.

  • Diamondbacks' Ryan Waldschmidt: Three knocks in win

Waldschmidt went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Padres.

Waldschmidt has six multi-hit efforts over his last 11 games, going 16-for-34 (.471) in that span. The outfielder's strong play is a positive sign, but it's unclear if it'll be enough for him to maintain his playing time once Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) completes a rehab assignment. Waldschmidt could be at risk of falling into a platoon role once Lawlar returns, as the Diamondbacks added Lars Nootbaar from the Cardinals at the trade deadline to provide more outfield depth. Waldschmidt is batting .298 with a .749 OPS, one home run, 13 RBI, 21 runs scored, 13 doubles, one triple and six stolen bases over 49 contests in his rookie year.
