  • Jake Mangum CF | PIT

Pirates' Jake Mangum: Not in Pittsburgh lineup

Mangum is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Cardinals.

Mangum's playing time has slipped a bit of late, as this will be his third time on the bench over the Pirates' last five contests. Ronny Simon is in right field and will bat seventh for Pittsburgh.

  • Nick Gonzales 3B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Taking seat Tuesday

Gonzales is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Cardinals.

Gonzales is receiving a routine day off after starting each of the past four games. Jacob Gonzalez will cover third base for the Pirates in Tuesday's series opener.

  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Pirates' Kirby Yates: Activated from injured list

The Pirates activated Yates (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Yates has not pitched at all in September due to a right shoulder impingment. He did not go out on a rehab assignment, as the Pirates were satisfied with the work Yates did on the side to show he was ready for reinstatement. The veteran reliever posted a 2.19 ERA and 11:5 K:BB over 12.1 innings in August after the Pirates acquired him at the trade deadline.

  • Bo Davidson RF | SF

Giants' Bo Davidson: Logs first big-league hit

Davidson went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 5-2 win over the Twins.

Davidson made his big-league debut Monday after being called up from Triple-A Sacramento. The 24-year-old outfielder lined a single to right field in the first inning and stole second base before coming around to score. With the Giants plagued by injuries and eliminated from playoff contention, Davidson could see regular reps down the stretch.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Doubles in victory

Koss went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 5-2 win over the Twins.

Koss lined a double to left field in the second inning before coming around to score. The 28-year-old had gone hitless in the Giants' previous three games, though he's been productive in September, batting .297 on the month with 15 runs scored, eight RBI, three home runs and three stolen bases in 69 plate appearances. Overall, he's slashing .230/.273/.326 with 27 runs scored, 12 RBI, five stolen bases and four long balls across 203 plate appearances this season.

  • Reds' Connor Phillips: Added to Cincinnati bullpen

The Reds recalled Phillips from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

He's taking the roster spot vacated by the injured Tony Santillan (hip). Phillips has been wild during his 27.2 innings for the Reds this season, walking 28 to go along with 28 strikeouts and a 5.53 ERA.

  • Tony Santillan RP | CIN

Reds' Tony Santillan: Lands on IL with torn hip labrum

The Reds placed Santillan on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left hip labral tear.

Santillan's hip had been bothering him for the last couple weeks, per Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati, and manager Terry Francona said the reliever will likely have surgery later this week. He'll finish the campaign with a 6.42 ERA and 36:28 K:BB over 40.2 frames.

  • Riley Cornelio RP | WAS

Nationals' Riley Cornelio: Working as opener

Cornelio will be the Nationals' opener for Tuesday's game in Detroit, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

Cornelio was used as a starting pitcher some earlier this season in the minors and has recorded more than three outs in 13 of 16 appearances for the Nationals, so he'll be capable of covering multiple innings, if needed. Jackson Kent is poised to fill a bulk-relief role Tuesday.

  • Jackson Kent SP | WAS

Nationals' Jackson Kent: Following opener Tuesday

Kent will be used in bulk relief in Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

Kent's first seven traditional starts haven't gone well, as he's posted a 6.40 ERA and 27:23 K:BB in 32.1 innings, so the Nationals will try something new. Riley Cornelio will serve as an opener for Washington.

  • JR Ritchie SP | ATL

Braves' JR Ritchie: Handed another start

Ritchie will start Tuesday's game against the Reds in Atlanta.

Despite getting lit up for six runs over 4.2 innings in a start against the Cubs last Wednesday, Ritchie will stick around with Atlanta for another turn through the rotation. The 23-year-old righty has struggled with his control (13.7 percent walk rate) and with keeping the ball in the yard (11 home runs allowed over 62.2 innings) across 15 appearances (nine starts) with the big club this season.
