The Diamondbacks and University of Nevada right-hander and first-round choice Braden Shipley have agreed to a signing bonus of $2.25 million, reports CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. Shipley was the 15th overall pick. Shipley's slot was assigned a pre-draft value of $2,434,500, so the Diamondbacks were under slot.
Shipley, 21, has good velocity and throws three pitches for strikes, including an outstanding change-up. A converted infielder, Shipley is also highly athletic on the mound. How well he commands his curveball against pro hitters will help determine how quickly he moves through the Arizona system.
