  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Nabs single pass in Week 3

Valdes-Scantling reeled in one of two targets for 37 yards during Sunday's 41-10 victory over Chicago.

Valdes-Scantling hasn't compiled more than two catches in a game through the first trio of weeks, drawing no more than three targets in a contest. He's also yet to find pay dirt, and it's seemingly trending toward another season in which the Chiefs' wide receiver room won't sport consistent production. However, MVS is already trailing Rashee Rice (14), Skyy Moore (13), Justin Watson and Kadarius Toney (11) in targets, so there's little to suggest he will be a worthwhile fantasy asset in 2023.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Held to two catches again

Valdes-Scantling recorded two receptions for 13 yards on three targets in Sunday's 17-9 win over the Jaguars.

For the second week in a row, Valdes-Scantling was limited to just two receptions, and all three of his targets came in the short areas of the field. The 28-year-old has the ability to stretch the field after recording 13 receptions of 20-plus yards in 2022, but Justin Watson has looked like the Chiefs' top deep threat through the first two weeks. Even though Valdes-Scantling is the highest-paid and nominal No. 1 wideout for Kansas City, tight end Travis Kelce remains the clear top priority in the Chiefs' passing game. Aside from Kelce, target counts could remain highly volatile for all other members of the Kansas City pass-catching corps from week to week.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Team-high yardage total in loss

Valdes-Scantling secured both targets for 48 yards in the Chiefs' 21-20 loss to the Lions on Thursday night.

The veteran speedster led the Chiefs in yardage, with the highlight of his night a 34-yard third-down grab late in the first half on a drive that culminated in a four-yard Blake Bell touchdown. However, Valdes-Scantling disappointingly didn't see any uptick in volume despite the absence of Travis Kelce (knee), with his two targets less than the amount he saw in all but four games last season and postseason. MVS will aim to bounce back in a Week 2 road matchup a week from Sunday versus a Jaguars team he scored two touchdowns against over two games in 2022.
