Joe Mixon: Not joining Seattle after all
The Seahawks opted not to sign Mixon (foot) after he underwent a physical for the team Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
With Jadarian Price (chest) recently landing on injured reserve and with Zach Charbonnet (knee) not expected to return from the PUP list until at least Week 6, Seattle planned to bring Mixon aboard to bolster their running-back room. However, the Seahawks evidently had some reservations about Mixon's health after reviewing his physical, and the 30-year-old will now remain a free agent. Mixon last appeared in the NFL with the Texans in 2024, as he missed the entire 2025 campaign due to an unspecified foot/ankle injury that he ultimately addressed with a surgery earlier this past offseason.

Joe Mixon: Landing in Seattle
The Seahawks are expected to sign Mixon to a contract, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
With Jadarian Price (chest) on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet (torn ACL) not yet ready to practice, Seattle is bringing in RB reinforcements in the form of Mixon, who is in line to join the practice squad once he passes a physical, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Emanuel Wilson likely will continue to handle a large workload out of the backfield for the foreseeable future, and George Holani is serviceable as a change-of-pace option, but Mixon could find himself called upon if one of Wilson or Holani gets banged up at any point before Charbonnet is able to make his season debut.

Joe Mixon: Meeting on tap with Seattle
Mixon (foot) is set to visit with the Seahawks during the upcoming week, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports.
After missing the entire 2025 season due to a foot injury and then being released by Houston in March, Mixon looked like he might have been headed for retirement. However, the 30-year-old Mixon seems to have made enough progress in his recovery over the last few months to entertain a return to the NFL, and the running back-needy Seahawks will bring him in for a look. Even if he ends up signing with Seattle, Mixon could need some time to get back up to full speed after having not played or practiced with a team since 2024.

Joe Mixon: Career could be over
Mixon (foot) has told people close to him that he believes his playing career is likely over, Cole Thompson of Texans Wire reports.
Mixon hasn't played in an NFL game since rushing 18 times for 88 yards and one touchdown in the Texans' divisional-round loss to the Chiefs during the 2024 postseason. He missed the entirety of the 2025 campaign due to a foot injury, and he recently required another operation while also dealing with blood flow issues to the extremity. Mixon will turn 30 years old Friday and was one of the top every-down workhorse backs in his heyday. He produced five 1,000-yard rushing seasons across his eight years in the league prior to being released by Houston earlier this offseason.

Joe Mixon: Released by Houston
The Texans released Mixon (foot) on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
This move was always coming after Houston traded for David Montgomery earlier in the week. Mixon missed the entirety of the 2025 season recovering from some sort of foot injury that neither the team nor player has discussed much through the media. It's unclear what kind of timeline Mixon is looking at in his recovery and return to the field. The move saves the Texans $8 million in cap space. Mixon will turn 30 years old in July and has lacked big-play ability in recent years. The two-time Pro Bowl selection has 7,428 career rushing yards and 60 touchdowns. His days of being an every-down back are likely over.

Texans' Joe Mixon: Candidate to be let go
According to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle, the signs point to a potential break between Mixon, who is recovering from a foot injury that sidelined him this past season, and the Texans.
That's a notion echoed by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, who indicates that the Texans are expected to ultimately part ways with the running back -- who recently underwent surgery to address his foot issue -- via a failed physical. For his part, GM Nick Caserio describes Mixon's status with the team as "a moving target," while adding "we'll kind of see what the availability is going to be, what the prognosis is for the season and then ultimately try to figure out what makes sense for everybody involved." Per Wilson, releasing Mixon from his contract would save the Texans $8.5 million.
