  • Rams' Van Jefferson: Lands on IR

Jefferson (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.

Despite insistence from head coach Sean McVay that Jefferson had not suffered a setback from what was reported to be minor offseason knee surgery, the third-year pass catcher is now set to miss at minimum the first two months of the regular season. Expect Ben Skowronek to once again see a sizable snap count behind the likes of Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson.

  • Rams' Van Jefferson: Out for a third straight game

Jefferson (knee) didn't practice Friday and won't play in Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.

The third-year pro still hasn't practiced since having minor knee surgery in early August, but his role as the No. 3 receiver appears fairly safe given the lack of production behind Cooper Kupp so far. Ben Skowronek, filling in as the No. 3, has managed only six catches for 41 yards on nine targets in two games, playing 88 and 86 percent of snaps on offense. Jefferson should be more of a threat if/when he moves past the knee surgery and reclaims his role. The lack of practice reps suggests that's unlikely to happen for Week 4 at San Francisco, though the Rams haven't officially ruled him out beyond Week 3.

  • Rams' Van Jefferson: Another DNP on Thursday

Jefferson (knee) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

As expected, Jefferson has yet to mix into any drills this week, indicating he's poised to miss a third consecutive contest to kick off the season. Friday's injury report could confirm as much, but assuming Jefferson is sidelined Sunday at Arizona, Ben Skowronek again would be in line for an elevated snap count behind the Rams' top two wide receivers, Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson.

  • Rams' Van Jefferson: Not expected to practice

Rams head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that he doesn't expect Jefferson (knee) to practice this week, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.

Jefferson thus seems likely to miss a third straight game to open the season, giving Ben Skowronek another chance in the No. 3 receiver role Sunday against the Cardinals. Jefferson still hasn't practiced since undergoing minor left knee surgery in early August.

  • Rams' Van Jefferson: Won't play against Falcons

Coach Sean McVay said Jefferson (knee) won't play Sunday against the Falcons, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.

Jefferson will miss a second consecutive game to begin the season, which should keep Ben Skowronek in an expanded role against Atlanta. McVay added that Jefferson is progressing in his recovery, but it's too early to tell whether the wide receiver will be ready to play Week 3 against the Cardinals.

  • Rams' Van Jefferson: May not be back for Week 2

Head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that the Rams are taking it "a week at a time" with Jefferson's knee injury, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.

The comment is less than encouraging for Jefferson's chances of suiting up Sunday against the Falcons, though prior reports have suggested that the receiver will likely miss the first two games of the season. Ben Skowronek filled in as the No. 3 receiver in a Week 1 loss to Buffalo, catching four of six targets for 25 yards while playing 88 percent of the snaps on offense.

  • Rams' Van Jefferson: Sits out practice Wednesday

Jefferson (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.

Jefferson remains in recovery mode due to a pair of procedures performed on his left knee, one from after the Rams' win in the Super Bowl and another in early August. Both were termed "minor" surgeries, but he still hasn't been able to get back on the field. Head coach Sean McVay told Barshop earlier Wednesday that the team is taking it "a week at a time" with Jefferson's rehab, so another absence to begin the campaign could be in the cards Sunday against the Falcons. If Jefferson is inactive Week 2, Ben Skowronek and, to a lesser extent, Tutu Atwell will be the next two wide receivers behind top options Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson.

  • Rams' Van Jefferson: Could miss first two games

Jefferson (knee), who is listed as out for Thursday's season opener with the Bills, could also be in line to miss the Rams' Week 2 matchup with the Falcons, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.

Though Jefferson will benefit from a lengthier turnaround for Week 2 with the Rams not facing off against Atlanta until Sept. 18, the wideout may not be fully recovered by that time from the two offseason procedures he required on his left knee. Jefferson had his first procedure shortly after the Rams' Super Bowl win in February, only to require what he termed as another "minor" surgery in early August when he suffered an apparent aggravation of the knee early in training camp. The 26-year-old is said to be progressing, but he hasn't practiced in any capacity since having the second procedure and will likely need to get in at least one or two full workouts next week to have a realistic shot at suiting up against the Falcons. As for the Week 1 matchup, Ben Skowronek is expected to get the first crack at replacing Jefferson as the Rams' No. 3 wideout behind Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson.
