  • Buccaneers' Devin White: Stands out in joint practice

White consistently made an impact during the second day of joint practices with the Dolphins on Thursday, Brianna Dix of the team's official site reports.

The talented linebacker has vowed to be even more consistent in his fourth season, and he's laying the groundwork for taking his already impressive body of work to another level with a strong training camp. White especially stood out Thursday while facing an opponent other than his own teammates, making his presence felt in coverage with back-to-back pass breakups on throws intended for Myles Gaskin and Hunter Long and also doing his typically superior job against the run. White was once again a jewel of IDP circles in 2021 with 128 tackles, 3.5 sacks and three defensed passes, but he didn't force a turnover for the first time in his three-year career.

  • Buccaneers' Devin White: Fifth-year option picked up

Tampa Bay informed White on Wednesday that his fifth-year team option for 2023 will be exercised, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The Buccaneers' decision to pick up White's $11.706 million option comes just one day before the 2022 NFL Draft and gives the team an additional year to negotiate with him on a longer-term extension. Though White's production took a step back in 2021 (128 tackles, 3.5 sacks) compared to 2020 (140 tackles, 9.0 sacks), White is certainly viewed as a major pillar of Tampa Bay's defensive scheme.

  • Buccaneers' Devin White: Bounces back in playoff loss

White totaled eight tackles (four solo), including one for loss, and a defensed pass during the Buccaneers' 30-27 divisional-round loss to the Rams on Sunday.

The Buccaneers' hopes for a second consecutive Super Bowl title were crushed Sunday, but White at least will head into the offseason with a little momentum after a mysterious statistical slump over the previous four games. The standout linebacker recorded no more than five stops in any of those contests, but his total Sunday was good for third highest on the team for the afternoon. Despite the late-season funk, White indisputably is an indispensable component of the team's defense, but if coordinator Todd Bowles were to leave for a head coaching position elsewhere, the third-year pro's role could be subject to some change.

  • Buccaneers' Devin White: Ends '21 in slump

White, who recorded three solo tackles, including one for loss, and a quarterback hit in the Buccaneers' 41-17 win over the Panthers in Week 18, finished the regular season with 128 tackles (87 solo), 3.5 sacks and three defensed passes across 17 games.

White appeared to be on his way to comfortably exceeding his career-best 2020 total of 140 tackles before he abruptly hit the skids in Week 16. The standout linebacker finished the season with just 10 total tackles in his last three games, a figure he'd often accumulated in a single contest on multiple occasions earlier in the campaign. White's pass-rushing opportunities also were down in 2021 after he racked up an elevated nine sacks last season, and he failed to force or recover a turnover for the first time in his career. The Buccaneers naturally will hope for a timely resurgence for White during the upcoming postseason after he totaled 38 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries over three games in last year's Super Bowl run.
