  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Sidelined again Thursday

    Mitchell (finger) didn't practice Thursday.

Mitchell sat out this past Sunday's loss to the Lions and could be trending toward a second consecutive absence Sunday against the Bears after being unable to practice Wednesday or Thursday. The 2024 second-round pick of the Colts is considered week-to-week by the Jets. He'll have one more chance to practice Friday.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Week-to-week with finger injury

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said that Mitchell (finger) won't practice Wednesday and is considered week-to-week, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

Mitchell sat out the Jets' 31-24 loss to the Lions in Week 3 due to the finger injury, and his absence to begin Week 4 prep in addition to Glenn classifying him as week-to-week rather than day-to-day suggests that the receiver is trending toward another absence this Sunday versus the Bears. If Mitchell ends up sitting out a second straight game, Isaiah Williams would be in store for another elevated snap count as the Jets' No. 2 wideout behind Garrett Wilson.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Inactive for Week 3

Mitchell (finger) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Lions.

Mitchell was listed as questionable for Week 3 after sustaining a finger injury last week, and it turns out he is not ready to take the field Sunday. Mitchell -- who garnered 12 targets last week -- joins fellow pass catchers Omar Cooper (ankle) and Mason Taylor (thumb) on the sidelines, so Kenyon Sadiq and Isaiah Williams figure to see some extra opportunities behind top option Garrett Wilson.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Listed questionable for Sunday

Mitchell (finger) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Detroit.

Mitchell was added to the injury report Thursday as a limited participant, and he was again limited at Friday's session while wearing a large wrap over his right hand, per Brian Costello of the New York Post. Mitchell isn't sure-handed even in the best of times, but he's been piling up targets and air yards anyway and will now get a favorable dome matchup with the Lions (if he's able to play). If Mitchell doesn't end up playing, the Jets may need a lot of snaps from a practice-squad veteran like Sterling Shepard or Tyler Johnson. Their WR depth wasn't great in the first place and has already been stretched thin with rookie Omar Cooper (ankle) on injured reserve for at least three more weeks.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Limited in Friday's practice

Mitchell (finger) will be limited in Friday's practice, according to the Jets' official X account.

With Mitchell now limited in back-to-back practices due to the finger issue, it's possible he receives an injury designation for the Week 3 matchup with Detroit. The Jets' final injury report Friday afternoon will reveal Mitchell's status.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Dealing with finger injury

Mitchell was a limited participant in Thursday's practice due to a finger injury, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Mitchell wasn't included on the Jets' initial Week 3 injury report released Wednesday, so the finger issue may have been something that popped up during Thursday's session. The Jets haven't revealed whether the injury is anything that will affect Mitchell's availability for Sunday's game in Detroit, but his activity at Friday's practice will bear monitoring nonetheless. Through the first two games of the season, the Jets' No. 2 wideout has reeled in nine of 15 targets for 123 yards.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Sees team-high 12 targets in OT loss

Mitchell caught six of 12 targets for 63 yards in the Jets' 20-17 overtime loss to the Packers on Sunday.

Mitchell's dozen targets easily led the team, as he was the intended receiver on 29.3 percent of Geno Smith's 41 pass attempts. The defense kept Mitchell in front of them, keeping his longest gain to 15 yards after he produced a 40-yard reception in Week 1 against the Titans. Mitchell is playing virtually every snap for the Jets, as he's cemented himself as the team's WR2 alongside Garrett Wilson. Mitchell will be an upside WR3/4 for fantasy in next Sunday's mouthwatering draw against the Lions' depleted secondary.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Hauls in 40-yard pass Week 1

Mitchell caught all three of his passes for 60 yards during the Jets' 23-10 win over the Titans on Sunday.

Mitchell connected with Geno Smith on a 40-yard pass early in the third quarter to set the Jets up in the red zone, leading to a Breece Hall four-yard touchdown run two plays later. Mitchell's catch was the longest play of the game for the Jets, and that deep-threat ability is a big reason why New York acquired him from Indianapolis last November. Mitchell's 46 snaps on offense were second-most among Jets wide receivers behind Garrett Wilson (50), though the former's extended playing time was partially due to an ankle injury that ended Omar Cooper's day early. The Jets will welcome in the Packers for Week 2 on Sept. 20.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Listed as starter opposite Wilson

Mitchell is listed as a starting wide receiver on the Jets' initial depth chart ahead of a Week 1 matchup against the Titans.

It's no surprise after Mitchell showed playmaking ability with New York following his midseason trade from the Colts last season. In eight games with the Jets, Mitchell caught 24 of 58 targets for 301 yards and two touchdowns. That 41.4 percent catch rate ranked second worst in the NFL out of 197 qualified pass catchers, but better quarterback play this season in the form of veteran pickup Geno Smith should help improve that number. Mitchell has big-play upside and is dripping with talent; he just needs to get out of his own way sometimes. He's worth a late-round flier in fantasy and makes for an intriguing best-ball selection.

  • Jets' Adonai Mitchell: Two quick catches in preseason win

Mitchell caught both of his targets for 29 yards in Friday's 17-0 preseason win over the Steelers.

Geno Smith completed seven passes to six different targets on the game's opening drive, and Mitchell is the only receiver whom Smith connected with twice. They linked up for an eight-yard gain on Smith's first pass and combined for a 21-yard pickup on the very next play. Mitchell and Smith have reportedly developed strong chemistry in training camp, and that was on display during their brief time in the game Friday. The Jets drafted WR Omar Cooper 30th overall, but all signs point to Mitchell opening the season as a starter on the outside opposite Garrett Wilson.
