  • Texans' Jalen Pitre: Contract restructured

Pitre had $9 million of his salary converted into a signing bonus by the Texans on Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The restructuring of Pitre's contract adds two void years and creates additional cap space for the Texans ahead of the 2026 season. Pitre is one of Houston's most impactful defenders, recording 74 total tackles and 12 passes defensed, including four interceptions, across just 14 regular-season games while operating as the team's top nickel cornerback last year. The Baylor product is expected to remain a key piece on the Texans' defense, starting alongside Derek Stingley and Kamari Lassiter.

  • Texans' Jalen Pitre: Continues growth in new role

Pitre had 74 tackles, 12 passes defensed and four interceptions over 14 regular-season games in 2025.

Pitre, who played safety his first two seasons in the NFL, enjoyed another strong year as a nickel corner. In some ways, he's the key piece to the NFL's top-ranked defense, because he hits like a linebacker and can cover (88.1 coverage grade). The Texans can roll with a 4-2-5 alignment, as they often did in 2025, while not being vulnerable when offenses go big and try to run the ball on Houston. The team recognized Pitre's value prior to the 2025 season by locking him in for a three-year extension.

  • Texans' Jalen Pitre: Steady in Week 16 win

Pitre posted seven tackles (six solo) and a defensed pass Sunday in a 23-21 win against the Raiders.

Pitre tied for third on the Texans in stops in the narrow victory. After missing three games while in concussion protocol, Pitre has logged every defensive snap for Houston over the past four weeks. He's up to 66 tackles and 11 defensed passes, including four pickoffs, over 12 games this season.

  • Texans' Jalen Pitre: Part of smothering defense

Pitre logged six tackles and an interception in Sunday's 20-10 win over Kansas City in Week 14.

Pitre was prominent in the game that was dominated by Houston's defense. He was part of an effort that limited Travis Kelce (one catch, five targets, eight yards), who was a big reason why the Texans' 2024 season ended in the playoffs. Pitre also had the signature play of the game when he blew up Rashee Rice late in the third quarter. The cornerback followed that with an interception in the fourth quarter, one of three picks thrown by Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Since returning from a three-game absence due to a concussion in Week 13, Pitre has nine tackles (five solo) and four passes defensed.

  • Texans' Jalen Pitre: Returning Week 13

Head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed Friday that Pitre has cleared concussion protocol and will play in Sunday's matchup against the Colts, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Pitre had missed the Texans' last three games after sustaining a concussion in the Week 9 loss to the Broncos. The fourth-year pro is an integral part of Houston's defense, recording 46 total tackles and five passes defensed, including three interceptions, across just eight appearances this season. Now fully healthy, he's expected to play as the Texans' top slot defender in Sunday's divisional clash.

  • Texans' Jalen Pitre: Limited at practice

Pitre (concussion) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.

Pitre has missed three games in a row while recovering from a concussion, and he still has to clear concussion protocol. The cornerback will have two more opportunities to practice in full before Sunday's contest against the Colts.
