49ers' Marques Sigle: Healthy scratch Sunday
Sigle (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants, Briana Jeannel of the 49ers' official site reports.
The safety started the first seven games of the season and played on every defensive snap from Week 1 to Week 5, but he saw his playing time drop from 62 percent of the defensive snaps to 31 percent to zero over the last three weeks, following the return of Malik Mustapha (knee) from injured reserve. Jason Pinnock is serving as San Francisco's third safety behind Mustapha and Ji'Ayir Brown.

49ers' Marques Sigle: Sees playing time drop in Week 7
Sigle recorded two tackles (one solo) while playing just 31 percent of San Francisco's defensive snaps in Sunday's 20-10 win over Atlanta.
Sigle played every one of San Francisco's defensive snaps from Week 1 to Week 5, but he dipped to a 62 percent share upon the return of Malik Mustapha from IR in Week 6 versus Tampa Bay. The rookie safety's defensive snap share then dropped to 31 percent Sunday, with Mustapha at 69 percent and Jason Pinnock at 35 percent. David Lombardi of SFStandard.com suggests that Mustapha will ultimately be a regular starter while Sigle, Pinnock and Ji'Ayir Brown -- who played every defensive snap Sunday -- contend for the No. 2 spot.

49ers' Marques Sigle: Modest output in Week 6 loss
Sigle registered four tackles (all solo) Sunday in a loss to the Buccaneers.
Sigle tied for third on San Francisco with his four tackles. That total was, however, his lowest of the season. Through six weeks, the rookie safety has tallied 43 tackles and two defensed passes.

Sigle registered 13 tackles (seven solo) and one pass defense during Thursday's 26-23 overtime win over the Rams.
Sigle reached double-digit tackles for the first time this season, and he finished Thursday's game with the second most tackles behind Rams linebacker Nate Landman (14). Sigle has played every defensive snap in each of the first five games of the regular season and is up to 39 tackles (22 solo), two pass defenses and one forced fumble. His playing time could take a dip with Malik Mustapha (knee) close to returning from the reserve/PUP list.

Sigle logged eight tackles (six solo) and one pass defense during the 49ers' 26-21 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
Sigle played every single snap for a fourth consecutive game, and the rookie fifth-rounder finished tied with Fred Warner for the second most tackles on the 49ers behind Dee Winters (10), who is nursing a knee injury. Sigle has opened his rookie season with 26 tackles (15 solo), one pass defense and one fumble recovery through four games.

49ers' Marques Sigle: Gets starting nod Week 1
Sigle will be the 49ers' starting safety against the Seahawks on Sunday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Per Maiocco, Sigle becomes the first 49ers rookie to start at safety in Week 1 since Eric Reid in 2013. With Malik Mustapha (knee) starting the season on the reserve/PUP list, Sigle will start alongside Ji'Ayir Brown at safety, while Jason Pinnock and Siran Neal serve in a rotational role.

Sigle (knee) logged three tackles (three solo) in San Francisco's preseason win over the Raiders on Saturday.
Sigle had suffered a knee injury in practice earlier this month but is now healthy again. The 23-year-old was selected by the 49ers in the fifth round of this year's draft, and he is looking to earn a spot on the team's final roster as a backup safety.

49ers' Marques Sigle: Initially injury diagnosis hopeful
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday that Sigle will still undergo testing but that initial indications are that he's avoided a serious knee injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Sigle was forced out of Saturday's 30-9 preseason loss to the Broncos early due to a knee issue, and Shanahan praised the rookie fifth-round pick's level of play prior to his departure. It remains to be seen, however, whether Sigle's injury will impact his status for the 49ers' next preseason contest on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Las Vegas.

49ers' Marques Sigle: San Fran adds speedy Round 5 safety
The 49ers selected Sigle in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 160th overall.
Sigle (5-foot-11, 199 pounds) was a backup for three years at North Dakota State before transferring to start at Kansas State in his fourth and fifth seasons. Sigle plays with a lot of motor and boasts excellent speed (4.37-second 40), so at the very least he can run and hit. What's less clear is whether Sigle has the coverage skills and wrap-up fundamentals necessary to play a starter's snap count. Although the 49ers will try to develop Sigle into a capable starter, there's a chance he more so makes a name for himself as a standout special teams player who doubles as a backup safety.
