Complete College Football Playoff, New Year's Six bowl games: Penn State vs. USC
Auburn-Oklahoma is set for the Sugar Bowl, while Michigan-Florida State makes for a great Orange Bowl
Championship weekend didn't provide us with many upsets, which means Jerry Palm's bowl projections for the 2016 College Football Playoff and New Year's Six games were spot-on.
The top four went as expected with No. 1 Alabama set to face No. 4 Washington in the Peach Bowl semifinal. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds were Clemson and Ohio State, respectively with the extra win and conference championship giving the Tigers choice of uniform in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal.

| Bowl | Date | Location | Matchup |
| Peach Bowl | Dec. 31 | Atlanta | (1) Alabama vs. (4) Washington |
| Fiesta Bowl | Dec. 31 | Glendale, Ariz. | (2) Clemson vs. (3) Ohio State |
Penn State won the Big Ten by beating Wisconsin but missed the playoff due to its loss to Pittsburgh in nonconference play. It gets the distinct honor of facing USC in the Rose Bowl after the CFP Selection Committee dropped Colorado below the Trojans in their final rankings.
Oklahoma, which won the Big 12 championship by going undefeated in conference play after a big win over Oklahoma State in Bedlam, faces Auburn, the next-highest ranked team in the SEC in the Sugar Bowl.
The Orange Bowl will get the highest-ranked ACC team remaining, Florida State, against Michigan, the highest-ranked team from the Big Ten or SEC.
Western Michigan completed its undefeated season with a win in the MAC title game, giving it the guaranteed Group of Five spot in the Cotton Bowl against Wisconsin, the highest-ranked team not already placed.

There are 75 eligible teams for the 80 bowl spots. Army and South Alabama will get bowl bids by virtue of having six wins, even though two came against FCS opposition. Hawaii will also get a berth by finishing 6-7 in a 13-game regular season. The other spots will go to the two 5-7 teams that are highest rated in the most recent multi-year APR. Those are North Texas and Mississippi State.
