  • Jets' Justin Fields: Officially placed on IR

The Jets placed Fields (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, Susanna Weir of the team's official site reports.

Head coach Aaron Glenn announced Tuesday that Fields would be shut down for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, so the latter's placement on IR was a procedural move to open a spot on the 53-man roster for safety Christopher Smith. Fields posted a 2-7 record across nine starts this season, completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception and 27 sacks while turning 71 carries into 383 yards (5.4 YPC) and four scores. Fields will enter the second year of his two-year, $40 million contract in 2026, though it's unclear whether he'll be part of the Jets' future plans.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Shut down for season

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Tuesday that Fields (knee) is set to be placed on injured reserve.

The transaction is likely to be made official Wednesday, when New York will likely add another player to its 53-man roster in a corresponding move. Fields hadn't been available for any of the Jets' last three games, and though the quarterback resumed practicing in a limited fashion last week, the Jets opted to shut him down after his condition hadn't improved as quickly as the team had hoped. The 26-year-old is under contract through next season, but the Jets are unlikely to view him as anything more than a backup option heading into 2026 following an unproductive run as the team's starter through the first 11 weeks of 2025. Over his nine appearances, Fields went 2-7 as a starter while completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 6.2 yards per attempt and a 7:1 TD:INT to go with 383 yards (5.4 per carry) and four scores on the ground. He also lost three fumbles and took 27 sacks on his 231 dropbacks.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Serving as emergency QB in Week 16

Fields (knee) is inactive as the Jets' emergency No. 3 quarterback for Sunday's game in New Orleans.

New York will go with Brady Cook as its starting quarterback for the second week in a row, after neither Tyrod Taylor (groin/knee) and Fields (knee) were available for last Sunday's loss to the Jaguars. Both Taylor and Fields took part in all three of the Jets' practices this week, but Taylor will get the nod as Cook's top backup after putting in a full session Friday, whereas Fields was limited in each practice. The Jets haven't indicated that Cook will retain the starting gig for Weeks 17 and 18, but a strong showing against New Orleans would bolster his odds of holding down the job for the rest of the season.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Listed questionable, won't start

Fields (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints.

Fields and Tyrod Taylor (groin/knee) are both listed as questionable. The healthier of the two signal-callers is expected to work as the backup to Brady Cook, who will draw his second consecutive start. At this point, Taylor looks like a likelier bet to handle the No. 2 role than Fields, who described himself as week-to-week Friday, per Brian Costello of the New York Post.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Not starting Week 16

Fields (knee) won't start Sunday's game at New Orleans but could be active as the backup if he's healthy, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.

Brady Cook will start, with the backup situation apparently depending on who of Fields or Tyrod Taylor (knee) is healthier.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Listed as limited again Thursday

Fields (knee) was listed as limited at Thursday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Fields and Tyrod Taylor (groin/knee) retained limited status Thursday as the Jets resumed practicing after holding a walkthrough Wednesday, for which both quarterbacks were also listed as limited. Brady Cook will start Sunday at New Orleans, which whichever one of Fields or Taylor is deemed healthier after Friday's practice set to work as the backup.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Listed as limited

Fields (knee) is listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's walk-through practice report, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Fields and Tyrod Taylor (groin) were both limited in practice Wednesday, though jets head coach Aaron Glenn has already named Brady Cook the starter for Sunday's game against the Saints. Which of Fields or Taylor is named the No. 2 quarterback behind Cook will depend on which signal-caller is deemed healthiest.
