  • Marte Mapu: Tryout with Tennessee

The Titans hosted Mapu for a workout Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Mapu was waived from the Texans' IR with an injury settlement in late August due to an undisclosed injury. The linebacker is now healthy and ready to return to the NFL. The Titans' defense is thin at linebacker, and the Patriots' 2023 third-round pick could have a shot to revive his career in Tennessee.

  • Marte Mapu: Reaches injury settlement with Houston

The Texans waived Mapu (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Mapu was waived/injured due to an undisclosed issue Aug. 24 and reverted to season-ending IR after going unclaimed on waivers. However, the injury settlement will allow him to suit up in 2026 once he returns to health and finds work with a new club. Mapu played in all 17 regular-season games with New England last year, posting 25 tackles, one forced fumble and five defensed passes, including an interception, while working both on defense and special teams.

  • Marte Mapu: Waived/injured by Houston

The Texans waived Mapu (undisclosed) with an injury designation Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Mapu may have picked up an injury during the Texans' 22-20 preseason loss to the Raiders on Thursday, when he accrued four tackles. The nature of Mapu's injury isn't clear, but if he clears waivers, then he would revert to injured reserve and be forced to sit for the entire 2026 season unless an injury settlement is reached with Houston.

The Patriots are trading Mapu to the Texans, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.

New England informed Mapu on Tuesday of plans to cut him, but it appears Houston stepped in before such a transaction could be completed. Per Alexander, the trade involves a swap of late-round picks.
