  • Packers' Sammy Watkins: Shifts to IR

Watkins (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

This comes as somewhat of a surprise. After a breakout Week 2, Watkins practiced in limited fashion Wednesday with a hamstring injury. The injury took a turn for the worse from there as the veteran receiver missed practice both Thursday and Friday before being ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. The Packers have been noticeably withholding when it comes to injuries with ambiguous timelines, but perhaps more information regarding Watkins' return this season will trickle out over the coming weeks.

  • Packers' Sammy Watkins: Not playing in Week 3

Watkins (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports.

Watkins opened Week 3 prep with a limited practice before sitting out entirely Thursday and Friday. While Watkins won't suit up this weekend, Allen Lazard (ankle) will be available, and Randall Cobb (illness) and Christian Watson (hamstring) are questionable. If one or both of Cobb and Watson are limited or out Sunday, Romeo Doubs would be in line for elevated snap and target shares opposite Lazard.

  • Packers' Sammy Watkins: Another DNP on Friday

Watkins (hamstring) remained sidelined at Friday's practice, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.

After practicing on a limited basis Wednesday, Watkins finished the week with consecutive absences, so he's trending in the wrong direction heading into Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Fellow wide receiver Randall Cobb (illness) sat out again as well, while Allen Lazard (ankle) and Christian Watson (hamstring) returned to the practice field. If neither Watkins nor Cobb recover by Sunday, Green Bay's receiving corps would be led by Lazard, Watson and Romeo Doubs.

  • Packers' Sammy Watkins: Misses practice Thursday

Watkins (hamstring) didn't practice Thursday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.

Watkins was one of four Packers wide receivers missing from Thursday's practice, along with Allen Lazard (ankle), Christian Watson (hamstring) and Randall Cobb (illness). Romeo Doubs is currently the top healthy wide receiver for Green Bay heading into a daunting Week 3 matchup against the Buccaneers defense, with Friday's injury report slated to add further context to the Sunday status of the team's key wideouts.

  • Packers' Sammy Watkins: Tending to hamstring issue

Watkins practiced on a limited basis Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.

Watkins has been no stranger to injury reports during his eight-plus years in the NFL, playing a full slate only once (in 2014) and otherwise missing 30 games since then. On a positive note, he was able to handle some reps Wednesday, while Allen Lazard (ankle) and Christian Watson (hamstring) also were limited and Randall Cobb (illness) didn't practice. Considering that's four of the Packers' top five wide receivers that are on the injury report, the situation will be one to watch closely as the weekend approaches to get a sense of who may be in danger of sitting out Sunday in Tampa Bay.

  • Packers' Sammy Watkins: Racks up 93 yards in Week 2

Watkins caught three of four targets for 93 yards in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Bears.

No other Packer reach 40 yards receiving and Watkins' four targets were enough for sole possession of the team lead, so he was the most productive receiver in a run-first Green Bay offense against Chicago. Most of the veteran wideout's yards came on a 55-yard catch in the fourth quarter. The Packers will likely have to pass more in Week 3 against a Tampa Bay defense that's terrific against the run, which could mean more targets for Watkins in a Packers receiving corps that has yet to establish a clear pecking order.
