  • Chargers' J.C. Jackson: Possibly back for training camp

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said Monday that "the hope" is Jackson (kneecap) will be ready to participate in training camp this summer, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.

Jackson suffered a ruptured patellar tendon Week 7 last year and has been sidelined since. At the end of March, Telesco said he's operating under the assumption Jackson will be ready for the 2023 campaign, but head coach Brandon Staley said there was no definitive timetable for the cornerback's return. Further clarity on Jackson's status should surface when the Chargers begin OTAs, but for now, he'll continue to attack his rehab one day at a time.

  • Chargers' J.C. Jackson: Return timetable TBD

GM Tom Telesco noted earlier this week that he's operating under the assumption Jackson, who is rehabbing a torn patellar tendon that he suffered Week 7 last season, will be available this coming season, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

That said, per John Dillon of USA Today, coach Brandon Staley acknowledged that the Chargers are unsure when the cornerback will be ready for action, noting of Jackson, "(We have) no timeline. He's at the facility, just kind of same as (usual). Improving. It's good to see him on a day-to-day basis." Added context regarding Jackson's injury recovery should arrive once the team embarks on OTAs and then training camp, but when healthy the 27-year-old's ball-hawking ability will be an asset to L.A.'s secondary. In his two seasons with the Patriots prior to signing a lucrative contract with the Chargers last year, Jackson picked off a total of 17 passes.

  • Chargers' J.C. Jackson: Officially on IR

The Chargers placed Jackson (kneecap) on injured reserve Wednesday.

Jackson is done for the season after having suffered a ruptured patellar tendon Week 7, and he underwent surgery to address the injury Wednesday as reported by Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times. The 26-year-old cornerback logged just five appearances after signing a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Charges this offseason, and his attention will now turn toward making a full recovery in time for the 2023 campaign. Michael Davis looks likely to take over for Jackson as a starting corner opposite Asante Samuel.

  • Chargers' J.C. Jackson: Out for season

Chargers coach Brandon Staley says that Jackson will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with a ruptured patellar tendon Monday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Jackson suffered what was initially labeled as a dislocated right kneecap in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. However, an MRI exam revealed that this injury was much more significant, leaving the 26-year-old sidelined until at least the 2023 campaign. Jackson played just two full games after signing a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Chargers this offseason, as he was sidelined in Weeks 1 and 3 with a lingering ankle issue and was benched at halftime of a Week 6 loss to Denver. In his stead, Michael Davis should take over as the Bolts' starting cornerback opposite Asante Samuel.
