Steelers' Jamel Dean: Won't play Sunday
Dean (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Colts, Mark Kaboly of 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports.
Dean suffered an ankle injury during the Steelers' 27-24 loss to the Browns last Thursday. The cornerback has not practiced since sustaining the injury and is set to miss a few weeks as he manages the issue. Asante Samuel is set to start across from either Daylen Everette or Sean Murphy-Bunting in Dean's absence.

Steelers' DeShon Elliott: Ruled out for Sunday
Elliott (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Colts, Mark Kaboly of 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports.
Elliott returned to practice Thursday after the Steelers opened up his 21-day return window. The safety logged two limited sessions in Week 5 as he works through a persistent knee injury. It remains unclear if Elliott will be ready to suit up for Week 6 or if he will need even more time to recover.

Steelers' Jalen Ramsey: Questionable for Sunday
Ramsey (wrist) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Colts, Mark Kaboly of 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports.
Ramsey did not practice on Wednesday but managed to finish the week with two consecutive limited sessions. The slot cornerback played through his wrist injury in the Steelers' loss to the Browns last Thursday and will likely do the same in Sunday's contest against the Colts.

Steelers' Rico Dowdle: Questionable for Week 5
Dowdle (toe) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts, Mike DeFabo reports.
A limited practice participant throughout the week, Dowdle now enters the weekend with a chance to return from a two-game absence. If he's active for Pittsburgh, he won't necessarily jump right back into the 50/50 split that he and Jaylen Warren operated in at the beginning of the year. Warren thrived in Dowdle's absence and isn't on the injury report, so he looks like a solid fantasy start even if Dowdle avoids the inactive list ahead of a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff this Sunday.

Steelers' Robert Spears-Jennings: Poised to start Week 5
Spears-Jennings is on track to start Sunday's contest against the Colts, Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com reports.
Spears-Jennings was able to notch seven total tackles (six solo) and an interception in the team's Week 4 loss to the Browns. Head coach Mike McCarthy praised the rookie Thursday, outlining that Spears-Jennings has "been productive in every opportunity" that the team has given him. Spears-Jennings out snapped fellow safety Rayshawn Jenkins versus Cleveland, and Spears-Jennings figures to operate as the team's starting strong safety Sunday versus Indianapolis.

Steelers' DeShon Elliott: Returns to practice Thursday
Elliott (undisclosed) returned to practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
The 21-day practice window opened Thursday. While Elliott was only back on the practice field in a limited capacity, it was still a step in the right direction. However, despite his presence at practice Thursday, the team might need to wait a few more weeks before he's ready to suit up, with Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reporting his return may not happen until the Steelers play the Saints in Paris on Oct. 25.

Steelers' Rico Dowdle: Remains limited in practice
Dowdle (toe) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Dowdle practiced for the second day in a row, albeit with a cap on his reps. Earlier Thursday, head coach Mike McCarthy told Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com that Dowdle's status for Sunday's game against the Colts is still up in the air, though the running back would put himself in good position to play this weekend if he's able to upgrade to full practice participation Friday. If Dowdle ultimately suits up versus the Colts, he'll likely be Option 1B in the backfield behind Jaylen Warren, who has averaged 6.5 yards per carry and 13.7 yards per reception over the past two weeks while Dowdle has been sidelined with a dislocated toe on his right foot.

Steelers' Rico Dowdle: Chance to return against Colts
Head coach mike McCarthy said Thursday that it remains up in the air whether Dowdle (toe) will be available Sunday against the Colts, Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com reports.
Dowdle was listed as limited at Wednesday's practice after missing the past two games due to a dislocated toe. Jaylen Warren has functioned as Pittsburgh's lead back in Dowdle's absence, but McCarthy has said the team intends to return to a backfield platoon once Dowdle is healthy enough to resume playing. Dowdle's status for Sunday's game has yet to be decided, so how he fares in practice Thursday and Friday will be key to assessing his availability.
