Islam Makhachev Biography
Fighter Bio

Makhachev has overdelivered on the seemingly impossible task of carrying on Khabib Nurmagomedov's legacy. A 2015 knockout loss robbed him of mirroring Nurmagomedov's undefeated record, but what he accomplished was perhaps more impressive. Makhachev's four lightweight title defenses are the most in UFC history, breaking a tie he shared with Nurmagomedov and other legends. Not yet satisfied, Makhachev moved up to welterweight, easily winning a second division title -- another feat Nurmagomedov never achieved. Makhachev has gradually stepped out of his predecessor's shadow to become a defining fighter of his era.

"When the gladiator comes to the arena, he never chooses the opponent."
