  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Signs one-year deal with Chicago

The Bears signed Peterman to a one-year contract Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Peterman spent the last two seasons in Las Vegas, appearing in two games and totaling 15 offensive snaps. The 2017 fifth-round pick will compete with Trevor Siemian for the backup spot behind Justin Fields.

  • Nathan Peterman: Reverts to practice squad

Peterman reverted to Las Vegas' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Peterman was added to the active roster to serve as the backup quarterback to Derek Carr with Marcus Mariota placed on the reserve-COVID-19 list. The veteran did not see any game action against Denver on Sunday. Now back on the Raiders' practice squad, he will likely remain there barring an injury to either Carr or Mariota.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Added to active roster

Peterman was activated from the practice squad Sunday.

Peterman will serve as the primary backup quarterback after Marcus Mariota was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. This will be just the second time this season that Peterman is active. In his last game, he played four snaps and had two rushing attempts for two yards, but barring an injury to Derek Carr, he isn't expected to see the field Sunday.

  • Nathan Peterman: Cut by Raiders

Peterman was released by the Raiders on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Peterman served as the Raiders' backup quarterback after Marcus Mariota (quadriceps) went down during the season opener, but Mariota is now healthy. Peterman has played well in the preseason over the past few years, though he's thrown only five pass attempts in two regular-season appearances since the 2018 campaign.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Plays whole game again

Peterman completed 18 of 29 passes for 175 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 34-10 preseason loss to the 49ers.

Peterman once again played the entirety of the offensive snaps to end his extensive preseason involvement. Although he found Nick Bowers for a 16-yard touchdown in the third quarter, Peterman was picked off on his next drive. The veteran now will await his fate as he hopes for a roster spot behind Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Sunday start on tap

Peterman is slated to start Sunday's preseason finale against the 49ers, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.

It appears as though the Raiders have no plans to play starting QB Derek Carr in the contest, with coach Jon Gruden noting that Peterman "will start and Peterman will finish, until I get better information." Also factoring into that plan is that the team would prefer not use Marcus Mariota this weekend, as he's been managing a quad issue. In the context outlined by Gruden's quote, Peterman looks like a player to consider Sunday in DFS formats.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Plays full game in preseason opener

Peterman completed 29 of 39 passes for 246 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Raiders' 20-7 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday night. He also rushed six times for 32 yards.

With Derek Carr getting the night off and Marcus Mariota (leg) warming up but not playing, Peterman went the entire way and delivered a solid performance on the stat sheet. However, he also took four sacks and threw an interception at the Seahawks' 32-yard line late in the second quarter. Peterman projects to see plenty of action in the Raiders' two remaining exhibitions as well, but he's likely to still slot in behind Marcus Mariota on the depth chart behind Carr to open the season.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Back with Raiders

Las Vegas re-signed Peterman to a one-year extension Thursday.

Peterman only appeared in one contest in 2020, and though he ultimately lost the backup gig to Marcus Mariota, it appears that the Raiders never lost interest in his continuing development. Derek Carr and Mariota both remain under contract for 2021, likely positioning Peterman to work as the team's No. 3 option this offseason, though Carr has been connected to trade rumors and Mariota's contract does include a potential out.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Loses backup job

Peterman (coach's decision) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Peterman had been handling the backup duties behind Derek Carr since Week 8, but Marcus Mariota will assume the position Week 13. Peterman saw work in last week's blowout loss to Atlanta, completing three of five passes for 25 yards. It's unclear if Peterman was relegated to the No. 3 job for good or just for Week 13.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Restructures contract

Peterman agreed to a restructured contract that will pay $1 million -- all guaranteed -- in 2020, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Peterman inked a one-year, $2.133 million contract in April, but none of that money was guaranteed. Presumed No. 2 quarterback Marcus Mariota is dealing with an undisclosed injury, so it makes sense for the Raiders to rework a mutually beneficial deal that will likely keep Peterman rostered through the entire 2020 season. If Mariota gets healthy, however, Peterman could be a healthy scratch on gameday.
