Broncos' Josey Jewell: Out Week 4
Jewell (hip) will be sidelined for Sunday's matchup with the Bears.
Jewell was a nonparticipant at practice all week, so this is not a surprising move. He is still recovering from a groin injury sustained in last week's loss to the Dolphins. In his absence, Drew Sanders and Justin Strnad are candidates to fill in at inside linebacker.

Broncos' Josey Jewell: Out for game
Jewell has been downgraded to out after suffering a groin injury Sunday against the Dolphins, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
The starting linebacker made four tackles in the first half and 15 in the first two games of the season. Jewell's injury opens the door for backups Drew Sanders and Justin Strnad.

Broncos' Josey Jewell: Exits with injury
Jewell is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Dolphins with a groin injury, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Jewell totaled four tackles before sustaining this groin issue during the first half. The veteran logged 15 tackles over the first two weeks of the season, and his absence will leave Denver's defense without one of its two starting inside linebackers for the time being. Should Jewell remain sidelined, then Drew Sanders and/or Justin Strnad will have to step up into bigger roles alongside Alex Singleton.

Broncos' Josey Jewell: Nine tackles in loss
Jewell recorded nine tackles (seven solo) in Sunday's 35-33 loss to the Commanders.
Jewell's nine tackles were the second-most of any Broncos defender Sunday, trailing only Justin Simmons in the contest. With his strong Week 2 effort, the 28-year-old linebacker has amassed a team-high 15 total tackles to start the season. Jewell is coming off an excellent 2022 campaign, in which he recorded career highs in tackles (128) sacks (2.5) and interceptions (2). It appears the veteran should remain a key member of Denver's defensive unit in 2023. Jewell will look to build upon his solid start when the Broncos visit the Dolphins in Week 3.

Broncos' Josey Jewell: Records three tackles in loss
Jewell recorded three tackles (two solo) in Saturday's 21-20 preseason loss to the 49ers.
Jewell was on the field for 34 percent of the Broncos' defensive snaps Saturday. The veteran linebacker suffered an eye injury in Denver's first preseason contest against the Cardinals, but the issue wasn't enough to keep the 28-year-old off the field against the 49ers. With the 2023 campaign quickly approaching, Jewell will reprise his starting role and look to build off a career year last season.

Jewell got poked in the eye during Friday's opening preseason game in Arizona, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Jewell had accumulated three tackles (two solo) before sustaining the eye injury. The severity of the issue is not known at this time, but it would not be surprising for the Broncos to exercise caution with their starting inside linebacker.

Broncos' Josey Jewell: Completes career year
Jewell recorded 128 tackles (70 solo) to go with 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, four passes defended, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries while playing 13 games in the 2022 season.
Jewell set career highs in tackles, sacks and interceptions in the 2022 campaign as he proved to be an integral part of a strong Denver defense this season. The veteran linebacker played an every-down role this season and made the most of his opportunities. Jewell finished second in tackles behind fellow linebacker Alex Singleton, and he could've had an even bigger year had he not missed four games due to calf and knee injuries. The 28-year-old is heading into the final year of the two-year contract worth $11 million that he signed last offseason, so Jewell will likely continue to play an important role in the Broncos' defensive attack in 2023.
