  • Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Activated Thursday

The Jets activated Davis (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.

Davis was unavailable for Week 16 after he tested positive for COVID-19, but he'll be able to return to practice Thursday. It appears as though he'll be able to reclaim his starting job Sunday against Tampa Pay.

  • Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Tests positive for COVID-19

Davis (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Davis' addition to the COVID list potentially leaves the Jets thin at safety when they host the Jaguars on Sunday. With Elijah Riley in concussion protocols and Sharrod Neasman also on the COVID list, that doesn't leave much depth if they were unable to suit up. If Davis is vaccinated, he can return after producing two negative tests more than 24 hours apart. If he is unable to clear protocols, Will Parks would likely be stepping into a significant workload.

Davis had eight tackles (three solo), an interception and a pass defensed in Sunday's 31-24 loss to Miami.

Davis intercepted Tua Tagovailoa's first pass of the game and returned it 18 yards to set up a field goal. The only other interception Davis has in his two NFL seasons was also thrown by Tagovailoa when these teams met four weeks ago. Davis also finished third on the team in tackles, trailing linebackers C.J. Mosley (14) and Quincy Williams (11).

  • Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Notches 11 tackles in loss

Davis totaled 11 tackles (10 solo) in Sunday's 54-13 loss to the Patriots.

Davis and Marcus Maye combined for 23 tackles from the safety position, as New England's offense consistently got into the second level in this lopsided affair. New York has been enthralled with Davis' speed and athleticism since selecting him in the third round of the 2020 draft, but he's had trouble staying healthy early in his career.

  • Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Officially activated off IR

The Jets activated Davis (undisclosed) from injured reserve Saturday.

As expected, Davis was activated off of IR and is expected to see his first game action since December of last season. Coach Robert Saleh said that the 24-year-old won't get a full slate of reps immediately, so Adrian Colbert is expected to draw another start in Week 4.

  • Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Will play Sunday

Coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Davis (undisclosed) will play against the Titans on Sunday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.

Saleh said that Davis won't get a full slate of reps, but he will get his first game action since December of last season. Before the injury, the 24-year-old was projected to be the Jets' starting strong safety this year, but that role has fallen to Adrian Colbert with both Davis and Lamarcus Joyner (triceps) landing on IR. When Davis is ready for a full workload, he will likely overtake Colbert for the starting job.

  • Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Could miss opener

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Davis (undisclosed) has a conservative return date of Week 2, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Davis could still heal more quickly than expected and be back in time for the Sept. 12 regular-season opener in Carolina, but the second-year safety may be forced to miss some game action due to his undisclosed injury. He's currently on the PUP list and is unlikely to see the field in preseason.
