  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Ramping up workload

Godwin (knee) is handling 7-on-7 work in Tuesday's practice, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.

Godwin is participating in 7-on-7 work for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair his right ACL, a notable step forward from individual drills. The Buccaneers will doubtless continue to take a cautious approach with Godwin's recovery, but his progress is good news for the team, especially with Mike Evans (hamstring) and Russell Gage (leg) not practicing this week.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Likely out for Saturday

Godwin (knee) is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason tilt against the Dolphins, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.

Godwin has been running routes throughout training camp and participating in positional drills, but the star wideout has yet to play in meaningful game situations, something that's not expected to change Saturday. The Buccaneers are expected to rest the majority of their top pass catchers, opening the door for Tyler Johnson, Cyril Grayson and Scotty Miller to get extended run.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Practices for second straight day

Godwin (knee) ran full-speed routes during individual and positional drills for the second consecutive day in Saturday's practice, Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The recovering receiver's rehab process is coming along as well as could be expected at this juncture, with head coach Todd Bowles emphasizing how effectively Godwin is moving around just nine months removed from his ACL injury. The team will naturally continue to exercise considerable caution with Godwin, but the fact the Week 1 clash against the Cowboys is still over a month away seemingly gives him a fighting chance of playing at least a limited role in that contest.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Very limited in first practice

Godwin (knee) appeared limited to straight-line running and individual drills Friday in his return to practice, Greg Auman of The Tampa Bay Times reports.

This is to be expected in his first practice tearing an ACL on Dec. 19. Godwin presumably has done cutting/agility work as part of his rehab process, but the Bucs don't want him pushing it in the more competitive atmosphere of a team practice. The plan, it would seem, is to ramp him up over the next five weeks, with eyes toward Week 1 against Dallas. The team can't be accused of lacking insurance, as offseason signings Russell Gage and Julio Jones can join forces with Mike Evans to give Tampa an impressive WR group even if Godwin misses games or starts off in a limited role.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Returns to practice

Godwin (knee) returned to practice Friday, sporting a knee brace in his first session since suffering an ACL tear last December, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.

It's a big step forward and all but confirms that the Bucs hope to have Godwin ready for Week 1. The timing of his injury toward the end of last season has made that a question mark, but all reports suggests his rehab has gone well, with avoidance of the PUP list at the beginning of training camp being an especially good sign. He's now practicing, though perhaps on a limited basis, with more than five weeks to go before Tampa's season opener against Dallas.
