Giants' Jonah Cox: Logs another stolen base Tuesday

Cox went 0-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Twins.

Cox drew a walk in the first inning before recording his team-leading 15th stolen base of the season, and he also logged an RBI on a fielder's choice in the ninth. The 25-year-old has racked up seven stolen bases in September while batting .260 with 13 runs scored and seven RBI in 83 plate appearances. Overall, he's slashing .272/.317/.412 with 25 runs scored, 16 RBI and four long balls across 152 plate appearances this season.

  • Owen Murphy RP | ATL

Braves' Owen Murphy: Optioned to Gwinnett

Atlanta optioned Murphy to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Murphy allowed three runs over three innings out of the bullpen for Atlanta in Tuesday's loss to the Reds. His roster spot will be absorbed by Robert Suarez (elbow), who is back from the 60-day injured list.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Braves' Robert Suarez: Rejoins Atlanta bullpen

Atlanta activated Suarez (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Suarez is finally ready to rejoin the Atlanta bullpen after missing more than three months of action with right elbow inflammation. The 35-year-old reliever made just one rehab appearance, striking out one in a scoreless inning for Gwinnett on Sunday. Atlanta might hold off on using Suarez on back-to-back days initially, but if he can stay healthy he'll give the bullpen a big boost. Suarez has yielded just two runs with a 26:6 K:BB over 32 innings this season.

  • Chase Burns SP | CIN

    Reds' Chase Burns: Adding sinker

Burns (groin) worked on adding a sinker in his September outings before getting placed on the 15-day injured list to end his season, Charlie Goldsmith of FOX19 reports.

Burns used the sinker nine times in his last start against the Cubs, with the purpose of giving his fastball another look. "It was moving a lot," Burns said. "Why not? My normal fastball is a cut-carry. This looks different to them. Having two fastballs is the big new thing. You look at Cam Schlittler. He has a cutter, a fastball and a sinker."

  • Daylen Lile LF | WAS

Nationals' Daylen Lile: Sitting out versus Framber

Lile is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Detroit.

The left-handed-hitting Lile will get a break as the Tigers send southpaw Framber Valdez to the bump. Dylan Crews, Jacob Young and James Wood will be in the outfield, and Andres Chaparro will be the designated hitter for the Nationals.

  • Gus Varland RP | WAS

Nationals' Gus Varland: Back in big-league bullpen

The Nationals recalled Varland from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

He's taking the roster spot of Jackson Kent, who was sent back to Rochester following Tuesday's bulk-relief outing versus the Tigers. Varland spent time in the Nationals' closer role earlier this season, but he's been rocked for 14 runs (13 earned) over his last seven innings in the big leagues.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Tagged for five runs

Freeland (4-11) took the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out two over three innings in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Freeland's struggles continue, as he's allowed 12 earned runs on 23 hits over a total of 10.2 innings in his last three outings. The left-hander needed 73 pitches to complete three frames Tuesday, but at least he didn't allow a homer after giving up five long balls in his previous two starts. He's lined up to make his final start of the season Sunday on the road against the White Sox.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Michael Soroka: Fans nine in strong win

Soroka (9-5) earned the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out nine over seven innings in Tuesday's 7-2 victory over the Rockies.

The Diamondbacks needed a strong outing from Soroka to keep their playoff chances alive, and the veteran delivering by fanning nine -- his highest mark since April 10, when he struck out 10. He's now allowed just one earned run in his last two starts, posting a 15:2 K:BB across 12 innings in that span. He's expected to make his final start of the season Sunday against the Padres.

  • Kodai Senga RP | NYM

Mets' Kodai Senga: Secures eighth save

Senga earned the save after striking out two over a hitless and scoreless ninth inning in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers. He also hit a batter.

Senga was handed a three-run advantage after Nate Lavender and Dedniel Nunez combined for two perfect innings ahead of him. The right-hander issued no walks and allowed no hits while needing 19 pitches (11 strikes) to finish the job, striking out two of the four batters he faced. The save was Senga's eighth of the season, though his ERA remains elevated at 7.34.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Mets' Sean Manaea: Fans nine, earns win

Manaea (6-7) earned the win Tuesday against the Rangers after allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out nine over six innings. He also hit two batters.

Manaea allowed an RBI double to Josh Jung in the third before Texas scored twice without a hit in the fourth, aided by two passed balls and consecutive sacrifice flies. The veteran southpaw kept the Rangers scoreless over his final two innings, and New York's three-run sixth turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead, allowing him to earn the win. Manaea matched his season high with nine strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 4.67. He's lined up to make his final start of the season Sunday on the road against the Nationals.
