Seahawks' Boye Mafe: Underwhelming rookie campaign
Mafe posted 41 tackles (28 solo) and three sacks across 17 regular-season games during 2022.
The 2022 second-round pick (40th overall) averaged 24.1 defensive snaps per game as a rookie, as Uchenna Nwosu, Darrell Taylor and even Bruce Irvin all ran ahead of him. Mafe still has excellent athletic qualities in addition to a solid collegiate track record. Mafe has a good chance at taking a starting role in 2023, but fantasy managers should temper expectations considering the underwhelming rookie campaign from the 24-year-old.

Seahawks' Boye Mafe: Notches second sack
Mafe posted two tackles (one solo) and a sack in Sunday's 27-13 win over the Giants.
Darrell Taylor left after just three defensive snaps, but Mafe's playing time didn't change much, as he logged a 44 percent snap share while veteran Bruce Irvin handled 72 percent of the defensive snaps. The rookie second-round pick managed to produce his second sack of the season. However, he won't be a dependable fantasy option until he achieves consistent playing time.

Mafe was limited Thursday due to a shoulder injury sustained in Seattle's second preseason game. His return to a full workload at Friday's practice indicates he is on track to suit up for the season opener. The second-round pick projects to provide depth on the edge behind Uchenna Nwosu entering the season.

Mafe suffered an unspecified shoulder injury during the Seahawks' second preseason game, though coach Pete Carroll has expected the second-round pick will be available for Seattle's season opener against Denver on Monday night. The rookie linebacker is expected to fill a reserve role on the edge behind Uchenna Nwosu this season, so it will be worth monitoring Mafe's health status on the Seahawks' ensuing injury reports heading into Monday's game.

Seahawks' Boye Mafe: Dealing with shoulder issue
Coach Pete Carroll thinks Mafe (shoulder) will have a chance to be ready to play in the Seahawks' season opener against Denver on Sept. 12, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Mafe sustained a shoulder injury during Seattle's second preseason matchup and was held out during Friday's preseason finale against Dallas. However, Carroll isn't concerned about Mafe's long-term status heading into the regular season. The 2022 second-rounder will presumably be monitored in practice before the Seahawks determine his status for Week 1.

Seahawks' Boye Mafe: Two sacks in first NFL action
Mafe posted three solo tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in Saturday's 32-25 preseason loss to the Steelers.
Mafe didn't start for the Seahawks, but he quickly made an impact by strip-sacking Mason Rudolph on the Steelers' third offensive drive. He later sacked rookie Kenny Pickett in the fourth quarter for an eight-yard loss. The 23-year-old is an impressive athlete out of Minnesota who produced 11.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss over his final 19 college games. It's unclear if he'll be able to secure a starting role right away because Darrell Taylor and Uchenna Nwosu have been impressive during training camp, too. Nevertheless, Mafe is worth having on IDP radars, especially in dynasty leagues.
