College basketball rankings: Iowa rounds out Top 25 And 1 with a better team than its resume suggests
The Hawkeyes are 6-1 in their past seven games and have been strong in the predictive metrics

Iowa has been strong in the predictive metrics all season even if the resume never really matched the computer numbers. And, to be honest, the resume still doesn't match the computer numbers; that's why CBS Sports Bracket Expert Jerry Palm has the Hawkeyes projected as a No. 10 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament despite them being ranking 15th at KenPom.com, 15th in Sagarin, 16th at BartTorvik.com and 19th in the NET.
But, that said, Iowa is clearly trending upward with March's doorstep just around the corner. The Hawkeyes are 6-1 in their past seven games after Friday night's 88-78 win at Nebraska. They went into Pinnacle Bank, avoided what would've been their first Quadrant 3 loss, and remained 7-8 in the first two quadrants with the highlight of the resume being last weekend's 75-62 victory at Ohio State.
With one more regular-season win, which should come Monday against Northwestern, the Hawkeyes will be guaranteed to finish above .500 in the Big Ten for the fourth consecutive season. They've already won at least 10 Big Ten games for the seventh time in the past eight seasons — and, for the third straight year, they have a legitimate National Player of the Year candidate leading the way. The previous two seasons, it was Luka Garza. This season, it's Keegan Murray, who is averaging 23.2 points per game, which ranks first among all power-conference players.
Iowa remains No. 26 in Saturday morning's updated CBS Sports Top 25 And 1 daily college basketball rankings. After Monday's game with Northwestern, the Hawkeyes will close the regular season with road games at Michigan and Illinois.
