MLB Burning Questions: Can the Braves Take Down the Dodgers?

Top Dodgers News

  • Dodgers' Edwin Diaz: Notches second straight save

Diaz retired all three batters he faced with one strikeout to earn the save in Game 4 of the NLDS against Atlanta on Wednesday.

It's the second straight day with a save for Diaz, who was shifted to a low-leverage role late in the season and also dealt with a neck injury. Tanner Scott operated as the Dodgers' primary closer down the stretch, but he surrendered two runs in Game 1 and was used in a setup role Wednesday. Diaz's 8.68 ERA in 21 appearances during the regular season will likely prevent him from being viewed as a lockdown closer this October, but he's been unscored upon in his last eight appearances (three postseason) and is clearly back in the high-leverage mix for manager Dave Roberts.

  • Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Covers 4.2 frames in clincher

Glasnow didn't factor into the decision in Game 4 of the NLDS against Atlanta on Wednesday. He allowed a run on one hit and five walks with five strikeouts across 4.2 innings.

The right-hander surrendered a run during the opening frame on a single, a stolen base and a wild pitch, but he was otherwise able to overcome his lack of control and keep Atlanta off the board. Glasnow threw just 44 of 78 pitches for strikes and allowed at least one batter to reach in each of the five frames he appeared. The 33-year-old should pick up another start in the NLCS, possibly in Game 4 again since Tarik Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Blake Snell likely locked into the Dodgers' top rotation spots.

  • Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Unavailable off bench

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Rojas (back) is feeling "not great" and will be unavailble off the bench for Game 4 of the NLDS versus Atlanta, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Rojas had to be lifted from Game 3 on Tuesday because of tightness in his left lower back/hip area. The veteran infielder expressed optimism after that contest that he'd be available for Game 4, but Roberts will play it safe and rest Rojas. The skipper noted that there's been no consideration to this point regarding the removal of Rojas from the NLDS roster, in large part because it would make him ineligible for the NLCS.

  • Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Sitting out again for Game 4

Edman is not in the lineup Wednesday for Game 4 of the NLDS versus Atlanta.

After starting the first two games of the series, Edman has now been on the bench in consecutive contests. He's hitless so far this postseason and hit just .203/.288/.335 in his final 50 regular-season contests. Enrique Hernandez will grab a start at second base while Edman rests.

  • Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Believes he'll be available

Rojas (back) said after Tuesday's NLDS Game 3 win in Atlanta that he isn't concerned about his availability moving forward, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Rojas was lifted from Tuesday's contest in the eighth inning due to tightness in his left lower back/hip area. It's unlikely the right-handed-hitting Rojas would start versus Atlanta's Game 4 starter, righty Tyler Mahle, even if he were 100 percent, but it sounds like he expects to be available off the bench. Rojas is 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the first three games of the series.

  • Dodgers' Edwin Diaz: Records save in Game 3

Diaz earned the save in Game 3 of the NLDS against Atlanta on Tuesday, allowing a hit with no walks or strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.

The 32-year-old entered for the ninth with a 3-1 advantage, and he got off to an inauspicious start as Ozzie Albies doubled to open the frame. Diaz dialed in from there, however, and retired the next three batters to tally his first save since mid-August. The right-hander was plagued by injuries and ineffectiveness this year -- which resulted in him losing the closer role -- but he finished the regular season with five straight scoreless outings and has been unscored upon in his first two appearances of the playoffs. He seems unlikely to fully reclaim the closer role given that Evan Phillips was called upon for the save in the series opener, but it still appears that Diaz has regained the trust of manager Dave Roberts.

  • Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Punches out 10 in Game 3 win

Yamamoto earned the win in Game 3 of the NLDS against Atlanta on Tuesday, striking out 10 and giving up one run on four hits and one walk over seven innings.

The Japanese right-hander surrendered a run on two hits and a walk during the fifth inning, but he otherwise limited Atlanta to a pair of singles. It was Yamamoto's first appearance since his final start of the regular season Sept. 23 versus San Diego, but he showed no signs of rust while helping Los Angeles claim a 2-1 series lead. The 28-year-old could be available Friday if Atlanta is able to force a decisive Game 5, but it's more likely that he doesn't see the mound again until the NLCS, should the Dodgers advance.

  • Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Exits with injury

Rojas was removed from Game 3 of the NLDS against Atlanta on Tuesday due to a lower-back injury, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Rojas injured himself while taking a swing in the eighth inning and was unable to finish his at-bat. The Dodgers will presumably send him in for imaging and could provide an update on his status after the game. If he ends up having to be replaced on the team's NLDS roster, he would be ineligible to play until the beginning of the World Series (if Los Angeles were to advance that far).

  • Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Out of Dodgers' Game 3 lineup

Edman is absent from the lineup Tuesday for Game 3 of the NLDS in Atlanta.

Atlanta is starting lefty Chris Sale, and the switch-hitting Edman has always been a better hitter from the right side of the plate. However, Edman hit just .203/.288/.335 in his final 50 regular-season contests and is hitless in the first two games of the series, so his recent struggles are taking precedence. Miguel Rojas will slot in at second base in place of Edman.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Not starting Game 3 vs Sale

Muncy is absent from the lineup Tuesday for Game 3 of the NLDS against Atlanta.

With ace lefty Chris Sale taking the ball for Atlanta, the lefty-swinging Muncy will begin the festivities on the bench. Muncy has homered in each of the first two games of the series, and he's a candidate to appear off the bench in Game 3. Enrique Hernandez will cover third base for the Dodgers on Tuesday.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Dropped to fifth in lineup

Ohtani will start at designated hitter and will bat fifth Tuesday in Game 3 of the NLDS against Atlanta.

It's the lowest Ohtani has batted since back in 2020 when he was still with the Angels. Ohtani has gone 1-for-4 at the plate in each of the first two games of the series, and he collected just a .503 OPS with zero home runs and a 34.9 percent strikeout rate over his final 18 regular-season contests. With Ohtani down in the No. 5 spot for Game 3, Mookie Betts has been elevated to the leadoff role.
