  • 49ers' George Kittle: No practice Wednesday

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Kittle (ankle) won't practice Wednesday but "has a chance" to play Sunday against the Bears, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Kittle was tackled awkwardly on his seventh and final catch in the middle of the third quarter of Monday's win at Indianapolis and wasn't able to return. Shanahan told Wagoner afterward that it was too early to touch on the severity of Kittle's ankle injury before Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported Tuesday that Kittle was tending to a mid-to-low ankle sprain. Kittle doesn't necessarily need to practice in order to be active Sunday against the Bears, but his chances to play Week 17 would increase if he's able to mix into drills at some point Thursday or Friday. Jake Tonges likely would step into the pass-catching role in the 49ers offense if Kittle isn't able to suit up this weekend.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Avoids high-ankle sprain

Kittle was diagnosed with a low-to-mid-grade left ankle sprain following an MRI on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

After he was forced out of Monday's 48-27 win over the Colts in the middle of the third quarter with the injury, Kittle said that he believed that he had avoided a high-ankle sprain, and follow-up tests have confirmed that's indeed the case. Though Kittle isn't facing a long-term injury, the star tight end could still be at risk of missing a game Sunday versus the Bears that has important playoff-positioning implications at stake. Before departing late in the third quarter Monday, Kittle still delivered for his fantasy managers, posting seven catches for a season-high 115 yards and a touchdown on eight targets.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Severity of ankle injury TBD

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said after Monday's 48-27 win against the Colts that it's too early to know the severity of Kittle's ankle injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Kittle missed all of the fourth quarter and some of the third due to the ankle issue, and the outcome of the contest wasn't certain until late, so it appears there's at least some chance the star tight end will miss next Sunday's game against Chicago. With that said, further evaluation is needed to determine how serious of an issue Kittle is dealing with, and he will likely do everything he can to play next week given that there is a lot at stake for San Francisco against the Bears. Despite his early exit Monday, Kittle did plenty for fantasy managers who started him, amassing 115 yards and a touchdown on seven catches. Jake Tonges was effective as the 49ers' pass-catching tight end following Kittle's departure and would be a viable fantasy asset in Week 17 if Kittle is forced to sit out.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Questionable to return to MNF

Kittle is dealing with an ankle injury and is questionable to return to Monday's Week 16 matchup against Indianapolis, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Kittle walked gingerly off the field late in the third quarter and subsequently was deemed questionable to return with what has been considered to be an ankle injury. The star tight end was having a big game before getting hurt, recording seven catches (on eight targets) for 115 yards and a touchdown. If Kittle is unable to return Monday, Jake Tonges likely would be asked to step in as San Francisco's top pass-catching tight end, with Luke Farrell also a candidate for more offensive snaps.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Season high in receiving yards

Kittle brought in eight of nine targets for 88 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 37-24 win over the Titans.

Kittle set a new single-game high in receiving yards (88) for 2025 on his second-highest reception total (eight) through nine healthy starts. The star tight end has been efficient with his 54 targets, producing a strong 83.3 percent catch rate so far this season. Kittle's season totals may end up suffering due to missed time to injury, but he remains one of the tight top ends in fantasy when he is on the field.
