  • Commanders' Tariq Castro-Fields: Returns from injury

Castro-Fields (knee) was taking part in team drills during Tuesday's OTAs, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.

The second-year defensive back's knee appears to be healthy after he suffered an injury that held him out after Week 6 of last season. Castro-Fields will fight for a depth spot on Washington's 53-man roster after not recording a tackle last season in two appearances during which he played six snaps on defense and 13 on special teams.

  • Commanders' Tariq Castro-Fields: Designated to return from IR

Castro-Fields (knee) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday.

The Commanders will now have an opportunity to activate Castro-Fields before the end of the regular season and he could potentially be available if they advance to the postseason. The cornerback has been out since late October with a knee injury, but his return wouldn't carry much of an impact on Washington's defensive game plan.

  • Commanders' Tariq Castro-Fields: Placed on IR

Castro-Fields (knee) was placed on injured reserve Friday.

Castro-Fields will now miss at least four weeks while he nurses a knee injury. The severity of the injury is unknown, making it hard to project his timeline to return to the field. In his absence, Christian Holmes could see a slight uptick in usage.

  • 49ers' Tariq Castro-Fields: Final pick of Round 6

The 49ers selected Castro-Fields in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 221st overall.

Castro-Fields has prototypical size and speed, as he measured in at 6-foot-1, 197 pounds with a 4.38 40-yard dash and 37-inch vertical. A four-year starter at Penn State, Castro-Fields was comfortable playing press corner on the outside but struggled with his consistency. He embraces physicality and could carve out a special-teams role as he sharpens his cornerback play to fit the next level.
