Vikings' Jordan Mason: Leading rusher in return
Mason carried the ball 15 times for 68 yards in Sunday's 16-10 win over the Colts. He failed to catch either of his two targets.
Making his return from an IR stint due to a thumb injury that had kept him out since Week 1, Mason ended up leading the Vikings in rushing yards after Aaron Jones aggravated a knee injury and spotted in and out of the lineup. Jones has been getting a hefty workload while Mason was sidelined, but their roles could be reversed in Week 8 against the Lions.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: Activated from IR, cleared for Week 7
The Vikings activated Mason (thumb) from injured reserve Saturday, and he does not carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Colts.
Mason has spent the four-game minimum on IR while recovering from a thumb injury, and the veteran running back has been given the green light to return for Week 7. He'll rejoin Aaron Jones in the backfield for Sunday's game, and the veteran duo figure to operate in a timeshare as they did last season.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: Questionable for Sunday
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Friday that Mason (thumb) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts after practicing fully all week, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Since he was designated to return from injured reserve Monday, Mason has been listed as full on three straight practice reports, but the Vikings will err on the side of caution, especially because they still must activate him by Saturday afternoon for the running back to have a chance to play Sunday. Assuming that comes to pass, Mason will rejoin Aaron Jones in the backfield, likely in a timeshare as they did in 2025 and in Week 1 before the former suffered a small fracture in his thumb that required surgery.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: Another full practice
Mason (thumb) practiced fully Thursday.
With back-to-back uncapped sessions under his belt so far this week, Mason appears to be putting himself in a position to be activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's contest versus the Colts. He's seeking his first game action since Week 1, when he suffered a small fracture in his thumb that required surgery. If he's able to return this weekend, Mason likely will resume a timeshare with Aaron Jones out of the Vikings backfield.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: Full practice Wednesday, still on IR
Mason (thumb), who remains on injured reserve, practiced in full Wednesday.
The Vikings designated Mason for return from IR on Monday, and two days later he was uninhibited on the practice field. He's seeking his first game action since Week 1, after which he underwent surgery on a small fracture in his thumb. The team will need to activate Mason by Saturday afternoon in order for him to have a chance to play Sunday against the Colts, but a full practice Wednesday puts him on pace to be involved in such a transaction.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: In line to practice Wednesday
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said that Mason (thumb) is expected to practice Wednesday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
The Vikings designated Mason to return from injured reserve Monday after he missed the team's previous four games due to a small fracture in his thumb that required surgery. His activity level Wednesday will serve as his base line for Week 7 prep, but per Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com, the team is optimistic that Mason will do enough this week to be activated ahead of Sunday's contest against the Colts.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: Ready to practice
The Vikings designated Mason (thumb) for return from injured reserve Monday.
Minnesota will open Mason's 21-day practice window Monday after the running back missed the team's last four games while recovering from thumb surgery. Per Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com, the Vikings have optimism that Mason will be able to play Sunday against the Colts, though his availability may hinge on how he looks from a conditioning standpoint during practices after a month-long layoff from action. Once he's fully ramped up, Mason should settle back in as the Vikings' top ball carrier on earlier downs, allowing Aaron Jones to slide back into more of a change-of-pace role.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: Eyeing return in Week 7
The Vikings are hopeful that Mason (thumb) will be ready to return from injured reserve for their Week 7 game versus the Colts, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Mason has already missed the required four games after landing on injured reserve following the Vikings' season-opening win over the Packers, and he'll get additional time to recover from thumb surgery while the team is on bye Week 6. Assuming that Mason's thumb has healed as expected following the five-week absence, he'll likely be designated for return from IR and resume practicing coming out of the bye. Aaron Jones has shouldered the load out of the Minnesota backfield over the past four games, but Mason should reclaim the bulk of the snaps on early downs once he's reinstated from IR.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: Lands on injured reserve
Coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that Mason has a small fracture in his thumb that underwent surgery, and the running back will be placed on injured reserve, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Mason emerged from the Vikings' Week 1 win against the Packers with a sore thumb, but the severity of the issue didn't become clear until O'Connell spoke to the media Wednesday. With Mason out for at least the next four games, Aaron Jones is set to lead the Vikings backfield for the foreseeable future, with Demond Claiborne, DeeJay Dallas and practice-squad member Jerome Ford all candidates for reps that don't go to Jones.

Vikings' Jordan Mason: Nursing sore thumb after Week 1
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that Mason is being further evaluated after experiencing thumb soreness coming out of Sunday's 39-22 win over the Packers, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Mason (30 of 65 offensive snaps) and Aaron Jones (29 snaps) had a near-even split of the backfield reps in Week 1, with the former leading the ground attack with 59 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries while going without a target. The 27-year-old apparently hurt his thumb at some point during the contest, but the Vikings haven't yet indicated that the injury is anything more than a day-to-day concern. Mason will likely be put through more tests before the Vikings have a clearer picture of his status heading into a Week 2 matchup with the Bears.
