  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Will retain starting gig

Hurts (ankle) will be the team's starting quarterback if healthy following a Week 14 bye, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.

Hurts was sidelined for the Eagles' Week 13 win over the Jets due to a left high-ankle sprain, which he sustained in Philadelphia's 13-7 loss to the Giants in Week 12. Though fill-in starter Gardner Minshew was highly efficient (20-for-25 for 242 yards and two touchdowns) in his stead, Hurts' overall body of work looks like it'll be enough for him to maintain the top spot on the depth chart if he's deemed ready to go for the Eagles' Week 15 game against Washington. While Minshew likely amounts to an upgrade in terms of accuracy, Hurts' proficiency as a runner -- he's totaled 695 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground through 12 games -- makes him the higher-ceiling fantasy option of the two.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Has high ankle sprain

Hurts, who is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets, has a high ankle sprain but is only expected to miss one game, Jay Glazer reported on Fox NFL Sunday.

After spraining his ankle in Philadelphia's Week 12 loss to the Giants, Hurts practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday through Friday before being ruled out of Sunday's game. His participation in practice suggests this will be a short-term absence, but Glazer's report that the sprain is higher up the ankle adds more uncertainty to his Week 15 availability. However, Hurts will have time to recover with the Eagles on a bye next week. Gardner Minshew will start with Hurts out while Reid Sinnett serves as his backup.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Sidelined Week 13, as expected

Hurts (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets.

After spraining his ankle in Philadelphia's Week 12 loss to the Giants, Hurts practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday through Friday, but reports leading up to Sunday suggested the Eagles would err on the side of caution and hold the second-year signal-caller out this weekend. Hurts' inclusion on the inactive list for the first time this season thus comes as no surprise, paving the way for Gardner Minshew to pick up a start while Reid Sinnett serves as his backup. Though the presence of Minshew behind center could actually provide an upgrade for the Eagles' pass catchers, he won't be able to match Hurts as a runner. The absence of Hurts -- who ranks fifth in the league in rushing scores (eight) and 10th in rushing yards (695) -- may also help lead back Miles Sanders, who projects to see a larger portion of the Eagles' carries, including more touches in goal-to-go situations. The Eagles are on bye Week 14, so Hurts should have a good chance at returning to the lineup for the team's Week 15 contest Dec. 19 against Washington.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Unlikely to play Sunday

Hurts (ankle) isn't expected to play in Sunday's road game against the Jets, NFL reporter Derrick Gunn reports.

Hurts emerged from a Week 12 loss to the Giants with a sore left ankle, and both the quarterback and coach Nick Sirianni initially were confident he'd be able to gut it out and play this weekend. While he logged limited sessions Wednesday through Friday, Hurts split first-team reps with backup Gardner Minshew, according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Ultimately, the Eagles appear poised to keep an eye toward the future and not risk a more significant injury with Hurts, allowing Minshew to be the primary signal-caller Sunday. Such a decision will be confirmed about 90 minutes before the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
