Cardinals' Josh Woods: Missing another week
Woods (ankle) has been listed as out ahead of Sunday's game against San Francisco, Darren Urban of Arizona's official site reports.
Woods will miss his third consecutive week as he continues to rehab from the ankle injury he suffered during the Cardinals' Week 1 loss to the Commanders. Krys Barnes (finger) is listed as questionable, and if he's able to play this coming Sunday, he'll likely be Woods' replacement at linebacker. Owen Pappoe is listed as Arizona's third-string weakside linebacker, and he'd likely fill in if Barnes is also ruled out.

Cardinals' Josh Woods: Will miss Week 3
Coach Jonathan Gannon said Friday that Woods (ankle) will not play in Sunday's Week 3 game against the Cowboys, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Woods also missed last week's loss to the Giants after starting and playing 55 percent of the defensive snaps in the season opener versus Washington. Krys Barnes and Kyzir White started at linebacker for Arizona in Week 2.

The Cardinals signed Woods to a one-year deal Thursday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Woods played for the Lions last season, registering 14 tackles (10 solo) while appearing in every game. The 26-year-old played almost exclusively on special teams last year, and Woods should be expected to have a similar role for the 2023 season.

Woods re-signed with the Lions on Tuesday.
Woods suffered a neck injury in Week 15 against the Cardinals and subsequently went on IR, effectively ending his season. He ended the 2021 campaign with a career-high 28 tackles across 12 games during his first season with the Lions. The 25-year-old's new contract suggests that he should be good to go for training camp ahead of the 2022 season, when Woods could possibly compete for playing time at inside linebacker, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Woods has been unable to log any type of practice session this week due to a neck injury suffered in the first half of last week's win against Arizona. The linebacker had been coming on strong prior to that contest, logging 21 combined tackles over the previous two weeks. Derrick Barnes saw most of the work in Woods' stead against the Cardinals and could continue to do so this Sunday.

Woods (neck) missed a second consecutive practice Thursday.
Woods exited in the first half of last week's win over the Cardinals with what was deemed a shoulder injury at the time, but it's now being called a neck injury and has kept him from practicing Wednesday nor Thursday. If Woods is unable to suit up Sunday against the Falcons, it would be a major blow to Detroit's already poor run defense considering the linebacker totaled 13 tackles in his last full game in Week 14 against the Broncos.

Woods led the Lions in tackles Sunday as he posted his best game so far this season. As the Broncos handed off the ball to both Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams a combined 39 times, the 25-year-old had a very busy afternoon. Do not expect the linebacker to put up these kinds of numbers week in and week out, but he has recorded eight-plus tackles in each of his last two games.
