  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: Not practicing Wednesday

Samuel (groin) won't practice Wednesday, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.

Samuel didn't practice last week and missed Sunday's loss in Seattle, with head coach Kyle Shanahan having since labeled the 25-year-old wideout as day-to-day. Reports last week suggested Samuel likely would only miss a game or two, and Shanahan said Wednesday that he's hopeful the standout receiver can return to practice Thursday, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. If Samuel is able to get back on the field in some capacity, he would stand a decent chance at being available for a Week 14 matchup with the Bengals.

  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: Considered 'day-to-day'

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Samuel is "day-to-day," and he hopes the wide receiver will be able to suit up for Sunday's game in Cincinnati, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Samuel has missed one game due to the groin strain he picked up Week 12 against the Vikings. His next appearance on the practice field will be his first since he suffered the injury, and it's unclear if that'll happen Wednesday, as Shanahan told Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site that it's "still too early to tell" regarding Samuel's status for Week 14. As a result, Samuel's listing on 49ers injury reports will be something to monitor as the week goes on. Without Samuel in the lineup this past Sunday at Seattle, Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Sherfield led San Francisco in playing time at wide receiver, while Jauan Jennings and Travis Benjamin mixed in behind the pair.

  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: Officially ruled out

Samuel (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Seattle.

While Samuel didn't practice this week, reporters saw him working on a side field with the training staff Thursday and Friday, suggesting he's still on track to miss only a game or two. There's no direct replacement for Samuel's unique, oft-changing role, but in terms of snaps, Jauan Jennings and Trent Sherfield are the most likely beneficiaries, while Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle also get larger target-share projections. Samuel will try to make it back for either Week 14 against the Bengals or Week 15 against the Falcons.

  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: Another DNP on Thursday

Samuel (groin) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice.

On a semi-positive note, though, Samuel was spotted working on the side with team trainers, according to Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News. While he's in line to miss at least one game as a result of the groin strain he suffered late in the 49ers' Week 12 win against the Vikings, Samuel may be further along in his recovery than expected. In any case, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Trent Sherfield and Travis Benjamin will be the 49ers' wide receivers for the time being, with River Cracraft and Connor Wedington eligible to be elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's contest in Seattle.

  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: No practice Wednesday

Samuel (groin) didn't practice Wednesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Given that he's expected to miss 1-to-2 games due to a groin strain, Samuel likely won't practice in any fashion this week before the 49ers rule him out for Sunday's contest at Seattle. In his absence, the 49ers will rely on Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Trent Sherfield and Travis Benjamin at wide receiver, while River Cracraft and Connor Wedington are candidates to be elevated from the practice squad for game day.
