  • Jeff Driskel: Getting let go

Driskel will be released by the Cardinals on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Driskel's exit will leave Joshua Dobbs, Clayton Tune and David Blough as the healthy quarterbacks on the team's roster. Wilson speculates that the veteran could return to the team next week though, according to a league source.

  • Cardinals' Jeff Driskel: Not playing Saturday

Driskel (calf) isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs, Josh Weinfuss of reports.

With Kyler Murray still on the active/PUP list due to his recovery from a torn right ACL, the Cardinals will roll with Colt McCoy, Clayton Tune and David Blough under center in their second exhibition. Meanwhile, Driskel also won't be available due to a strained calf that he sustained prior to the team's first preseason contest. As a result, he'll have just one more chance for game action this month (Saturday, Aug. 26 at Minnesota).

  • Cardinals' Jeff Driskel: Nursing calf injury

Driskel was not available for the Cardinals in Friday's preseason-opening 18-17 victory over the Broncos due to a strained calf, Howard Balzer of reports.

Driskel signed with the Cardinals during the offseason, which makes them his fifth team in six years. He is involved in one of the more interesting training camp competitions we have seen, as he is competing against Colt McCoy, Clayton Tune and David Blough for the opportunity to start under center until Kyler Murray (knee) is ready to return. The race is seemingly wide open, so it would be advantageous for him to have a speedy recovery.

  • Cardinals' Jeff Driskel: Heading to Arizona

Driskel has agreed to a one-year deal with the Cardinals, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The Cardinals will mark Driskel's fifth team in six years since entering the league in 2018. He saw his heaviest workload in Cincinnati during his rookie campaign, when he recorded 1,003 passing yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions across nine games. The journeyman suited up seven times this past season in Houston, and he was part of a quarterback share with Davis Mills over the final five games. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) tore his ACL on Dec. 12 this past year and remains without an estimated return date. Thus, Driskel could compete with Colt McCoy (undisclosed) and David Blough for a potential starting role under center when the season kicks off.

  • Texans' Jeff Driskel: Decreased usage in finale

Driskel completed two of two passes for 13 yards and had three carries for seven yards in a 32-31 win over the Colts in Week 18.

Driskel, who was part of a quarterback share with Davis Mills over the final five games, had his fewest amount of snaps (six) in the season finale. The gimmick worked as a surprise factor the first week but was less effective in the following weeks. He heads to free agency after completing 14 of 20 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. Driskel also ran the ball 20 times for 75 yards. The Texans used him in the backfield and at tight end during his two seasons in Houston, and that position versatility could be attractive.
