Watch Now: NFL Win Totals: Denver Broncos O/U 7.5 (3:55)

Only time will tell whether the 2020 NFL season kicks off on time and holds its standard 17-week regular season. But even with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic abbreviating teams' in-person offseason programs -- and perhaps, eventually, eliminating them entirely -- the league is preparing to proceed as planned come September, with 256 games on the slate starting Sept. 10.

If/when games begin, one of the most interesting teams to watch will be the Denver Broncos, who've missed the playoffs in four straight seasons but -- believe it or not -- won the Super Bowl the last time they cracked the postseason. A lot has changed since Peyton Manning played quarterback in Mile High, but now John Elway has another signal-caller worthy of excitement in Drew Lock. Surrounded with more weapons entering 2020, Lock will face a steep challenge with Patrick Mahomes in the same division, but it's not out of the question he could keep Denver in the playoff picture.

In celebration of (hopefully) football on the horizon, here's a way-too-early week-by-week prediction for all 16 of the Broncos' regular season games on the schedule, complete with over/under win totals for every opponent courtesy of William Hill Sports Book, as well as Week 1 and 2 lines. The Broncos' O/U is 7.5 wins:

Week 1 at Titans

Line: Broncos -2.5
Opponent win total:
O/U 8.5

Prediction: Mike Vrabel leans heavily on Derrick Henry to start the new season, but the ground-and-pound approach is no match for Denver's spread-it-out attack. Drew Lock starts slow but then connects big-time in the second half, as rookie K.J. Hamler exposes Johnathan Joseph on a deep-ball score. Broncos win 28-17.

Projected record: 1-0

Week 2 vs. Steelers

Line: Steelers -5.5
Opponent win total: O/U 9

Prediction: Melvin Gordon has an unexpected coming-out party against Pittsburgh's defense, but more importantly, Denver's sack-artist duo of Von Miller and Bradley Chubb makes Ben Roethlisberger uncomfortable for much of the night. Pittsburgh's struggles in Mile High continue as the Broncos win 26-23.

Projected record: 2-0

Week 3 vs. Buccaneers

Opponent win total: O/U 9.5

Prediction: Tom Brady isn't perfect trying to elude Chubb off the edge, but with big plays from Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski, the Bucs are too explosive to keep up with. Left tackle Garrett Bolles, in particular, draws criticism after failing to contain Jason Pierre-Paul as the Broncos lose 29-20.

Projected record: 2-1

Week 4 at Jets

Opponent win total: O/U 6.5

Prediction: Sam Darnold puts on a decent show in the Big Apple, but with little ground support as the day goes on, Denver's pass rush steps up to protect a late lead. Lock is picked twice on a busy day through the air, but the Broncos still win 27-21.

Projected record: 3-1

Week 5 at Patriots

Opponent win total: O/U 9

Prediction: Jarrett Stidham enters feeling calm and collected as the point guard of Bill Belichick's opened-up offense, but then Vic Fangio's "D" shows up. A.J. Bouye blankets New England's pass-catching corps, and the Broncos win 23-20.

Projected record: 4-1

Week 6 vs. Dolphins

Opponent win total: O/U 6

Prediction: A gutsy performance from Ryan Fitzpatrick threatens to end Denver's win streak after two weeks, but Brian Flores' defense is still a work in progress. Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay go off as the Broncos win 30-25.

Projected record: 5-1

Week 7 vs. Chiefs

Opponent win total: O/U 11.5

Prediction: Denver's limited crowd is hyped with an AFC West lead on the line, and Fangio lets Lock air it out in an attempt to go toe to toe with Mahomes. Andy Reid proves superior in play-calling, however, as Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman use big-play scores to down their rivals. Broncos lose 31-22.

Projected record: 5-2

Week 9 at Falcons

Opponent win total: O/U 7.5

Prediction: Rested up and ready to roll after the bye, Drew Lock goes to town passing against Atlanta's reshuffled secondary. Matt Ryan doesn't go down without a fight, with Julio Jones tormenting Denver's own corners, but the Broncos still win 34-26.

Projected record: 6-2

Week 10 at Raiders

Opponent win total: O/U 7.5

Prediction: Favored on the road, Denver falls victim to some untimely fumbles, including one from rookie Jerry Jeudy, while Derek Carr plays it safe and then hits a game-sealing bomb to Henry Ruggs in Vegas. Broncos lose 24-20.

Projected record: 6-3

Week 11 vs. Chargers

Opponent win total: O/U 7.5

Prediction: Tyrod Taylor doesn't scare Fangio's defense, but Austin Ekeler does after he racks up almost 200 yards from scrimmage. Joey Bosa and Derwin James, meanwhile, each log turnovers off Lock as the Broncos lose 23-17.

Projected record: 6-4

Week 12 vs. Saints

Opponent win total: O/U 10.5

Prediction: Jeudy and K.J. Hamler help Lock off to a hot start, but it's all downhill from there. Drew Brees has no trouble spreading the ball around as Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas and old friend Emmanuel Sanders give Denver fits. Broncos lose 38-26.

Projected record: 6-5

Week 13 at Chiefs

Opponent win total: O/U 11.5

Prediction: Fangio officially wins over Broncos Nation with a perfect game plan for the K.C. rematch. This time, Von Miller steps up to down Mahomes three times, and Lock rides both Melvin Gordon and Courtland Sutton to a thrilling victory sealed by a last-minute Brandon McManus field goal. Broncos win 34-31 to stun their rivals.

Projected record: 7-5

Week 14 at Panthers

Opponent win total: O/U 5.5

Prediction: Teddy Bridgewater can barely complete a pass 15 yards down the field working behind a battered Carolina O-line, and while Christian McCaffrey is his usual productive self, this game belongs to Sutton, who shines yet again as Lock's top target to help the Broncos win 31-17.

Projected record: 8-5

Week 15 vs. Bills

Opponent win total: O/U 9

Prediction: In the battle of two ascending, young QBs, Lock performs nearly as well as Josh Allen, but Stefon Diggs is the difference-maker in Buffalo, gliding past A.J. Bouye one too many times. The Bills' "D" is plenty tough, too. Broncos lose 26-19.

Projected record: 8-6

Week 16 at Chargers

Opponent win total: O/U 7.5

Prediction: Melvin Gordon revenge game! In an ugly rematch of their earlier-season clash, the ex-Chargers RB scores twice to make up for another couple of Lock turnovers. Broncos win 17-16 to keep pace in the Wild-Card race.

Projected record: 9-6

Week 17 vs. Raiders

Opponent win total: O/U 7.5

Prediction: Jon Gruden opts to roll with Marcus Mariota for the season finale after going back and forth in an attempt to jump-start the Raiders' playoff chances, but the Broncos are prepared anyway. Josh Jacobs has himself a day, and yet Denver's "D" prevails at the end, coming up with a goal-line stand to seal a trip to the playoffs. Broncos win 28-20.

Projected record: 10-6
