  • Texans' Marlon Mack: Heading to Houston

The Texans and Mack agreed to a contract Friday, Sarah Barshop of reports.

A fourth-round pick of the Colts in 2017, Mack worked his way to the top of the depth chart at running back in his second and third seasons, combining for 1,999 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground between 2018 and 2019. Indianapolis then selected Jonathan Taylor in the second round of the 2020 Draft, which was followed by Mack tearing his Achilles in Week 1 of that campaign. Mack only appeared in six games last year, averaging 3.6 yards on his 28 carries, and otherwise was a healthy scratch after Week 8, a late-season bout on the reserve/COVID-19 list aside. In Houston, he'll vie for slotting in the backfield with Rex Burkhead, Royce Freeman and Dare Ogunbowale.

  • Colts' Marlon Mack: Ends year as No. 4 on depth chart

Mack rushed 28 times for 101 yards while securing two of five targets for eight yards across six appearances in 2021.

The 25-year-old began the 2021 campaign as the Colts' No. 3 running back behind Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines, but he saw limited playing time early in the season. Mack and the Colts mutually agreed to seek a trade in late September, but a trade partner wasn't found. The 2017 fourth-rounder didn't appear in any of the final nine games of the season, mainly due to being a healthy scratch. Mack is slated to become an unrestricted free agent during the offseason, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him attempt to carve out a role elsewhere.

  • Colts' Marlon Mack: Remains sidelined

Mack (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.

Mack has not played since Week 8, when Deon Jackson jumped him on the depth chart. Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines will continue to serve as the team's primary backs.

  • Colts' Marlon Mack: Inactive Sunday

Mack has not played since Week 8 against the Titans. He'll work to earn a chance to suit up in Week 18 against the Jaguars.

  • Colts' Marlon Mack: Back from COVID list

The Colts activated Mack (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday.

Mack landed on the list Monday but was able to clear the NFL's return-to-play protocols in timely fashion. The 25-year-old has been a healthy scratch since Week 8, and he's unlikely to see the field Sunday against the Raiders if the rest of the Indianapolis backfield remains in good health.

  • Colts' Marlon Mack: Lands on COVID-19 list

Mack was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.

Mack will need to clear the NFL's COVID-19 protocols before seeing action again, but with him being a healthy scratch in seven straight games, his absence should not affect any roles in the Colts' backfield.
