Top Chiefs News

  • Chiefs' Noah Gray: Short TD in loss to Denver

Gray caught both of his targets for 15 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Broncos.

The Chiefs' TE2 caught a four-yard score in the third quarter, his first touchdown of the season. Kansas City uses plenty of 12 personnel, using both Travis Kelce and Gray on offense, but Gray handles more of the blocking duties. On the season, he has 14 grabs for 173 yards and a touchdown. There isn't much meat on the bone here for fantasy purposes.

  • Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Five grabs in Denver

Kelce caught five of seven targets for 67 yards in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Broncos.

The 37-year-old tight end caught more than four passes and topped 60 yards for the first time since Week 2, but his TD drought stands at four games. Kelce moved up another rung on the NFL's all-time leaderboards with this performance, as he passed Torry Holt to take over 18th place in career receiving yards (13,412). Kelce will take a 29-410-2 line on 42 targets through seven games in the current campaign into a Week 9 clash with the Jets.

  • Chiefs' Emmett Johnson: Huge day as pass catcher in Week 8 loss

Johnson carried the ball once for 15 yards and caught all five of his targets for 128 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Broncos. He also added 44 yards on his only kickoff return.

The rookie running back flashed his explosiveness on a 73-yard catch and run in the second quarter that produced Johnson's first career NFL touchdown. He came into Sunday with a 9-109-0 line on 11 targets through six games, and his six touches were firmly behind Kenneth Walker's 25, but Johnson's breakout performance can only encourage Andy Reid to find more ways to get the ball in his hands. Johnson will look to build on this effort in Week 9 against the Jets.

  • Chiefs' Xavier Worthy: Three catches in loss

Worthy caught three of six targets for 13 yards during Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Broncos.

Worthy put together another disappointing performance, reeling three passes while failing to exceed 15 receiving yards for the second straight game. The wide receiver operated in a more prominent role for a couple weeks with Rashee Rice sidelined with a hamstring injury, but Rice returned to action Sunday, reeling in seven of eight targets for 53 yards. Worthy will continue to be an unappealing fantasy option ahead of the team's Week 9 matchup with the Jets.

  • Chiefs' Rashee Rice: Finds end zone in Week 8 return

Rice caught seven of eight targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Broncos.

Making his return from a two-game absence due to a hamstring strain, Rice made an immediate impact when he caught an 11-yard TD from Patrick Mahomes in the first quarter for Kansas City's first points of the afternoon. The fourth-year wideout nearly had the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds of the fourth as well, but the play was wiped out by a false start penalty. In five appearances that season, one of which lasted just six snaps, Rice has put together a 20-243-2 line on 25 targets. He'll look to build on Sunday's performance in a Week 9 clash with the Jets.

  • Chiefs' Kenneth Walker: Overshadowed by rookie backup in Week 8 loss

Walker carried the ball 21 times for 69 yards and caught four of five targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Broncos.

The star running back was held below 100 scrimmage yards for a second straight game, but Walker watched his rookie backup, Emmett Johnson, erupt for a 5-128-1 line on five targets and take his only carry for 15 yards. Walker is still the clear No. 1 in the Kansas City backfield, but Johnson may have earned more consistent work with Sunday's impressive effort -- touches which might come at Walker's expense. He'll head into a Week 9 meeting with the Jets second in the race for the NFL rushing crown with 770 yards, just behind Bijan Robinson's 780.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Tosses three TDs in losing effort

Mahomes completed 30 of 41 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Broncos. He added six rushing yards on two carries.

The two-time MVP tossed TDs in each of the first three quarters, including a four-yard toss to Noah Gray in the third that gave Kansas City a 24-13 lead, but Mahomes got shut out of the end zone over the final 15 minutes as Denver staged a comeback. It was the second three-touchdown performance of the season for Mahomes as well as his second 300-yard effort, after he threw for 382 yards and three scores against the Colts in Week 2. He'll look to keep rolling in Week 9 against a Jets defense that's allowed three straight quarterbacks to produce at least three TDs against it.

  • Chiefs' Peter Woods: Done for night

Woods (neck) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's contest against the Broncos.

Woods went down with a neck injury early in the contest, and his night has now officially come to a premature end. Woods will now shift his focus towards being ready to go for the team's Week 9 matchup with the Jets.

  • Chiefs' Peter Woods: Dealing with neck issue

Woods (neck) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Broncos.

Woods suffered a neck injury in the first quarter, and his status for the rest of the game is now uncertain. In his absence, Chris Jones and Khyiris Tonga will continue to operate as the Chiefs' top options at defensive tackle.

  • Chiefs' Garrett Nussmeier: Emergency QB3 versus Denver

Nussmeier (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Denver, though he will be available as the team's emergency quarterback.

Nussmeier is inactive for another contest. However, the signal-caller will be available if Patrick Mahomes and Justin Fields exit the game due to injury, illness, or ejection.
