Coaches Poll top 25: USC, Michigan plummet; Notre Dame makes strong move
The Fighting Irish are getting more attention after throttling USC 49-14 Saturday night
Notre Dame jumped six spots to the No. 10 spot in the latest edition of the Coaches Poll following its impressive 49-14 demolition of USC on Saturday night in South Bend, Indiana. At 6-1 -- with the lone loss coming to No. 3 Georgia -- coach Brian Kelly's crew has established itself not only as a fringe-contender for the College Football Playoff but a real threat to crash the four-team party. USC fell from No. 11 all the way to No. 21 as a result of the loss.
Michigan went the other direction as well. After getting throttled 42-13 by No. 2 Penn State, the Wolverines fell to No. 25. They are 5-2 overall, 2-2 in the Big Ten and saw their playoff hopes disappear in the night in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania.
