Well, my spring "system" hasn't worked of late but let's try again after taking a day off and with Team USA also set to play tonight for the first time in the WBC. Note that I'm playing Under 14.5 on that. Again, this pick is simply looking at lineups. The Cardinals' version is utterly anonymous and the Orioles are playing nearly everyone of note. And it's veteran pitcher Chris Bassitt so I don't think he will get lit up like some minor-league guy might. Oh, sure, the guys after Bassitt may get shelled. This is why I only play a half in the spring. I consider this spring training for myself MLB-betting wise.

Analysis

ASUN quarterfinal from Jacksonville. I'm simply going to bet chronologically today -- if not logically -- and see how it goes. I believe this is 50 cents or so too low. KenPom ranks Lipscomb at No. 178 nationally and FGCU at 263. I am not "Beautiful Mind" math-wise but that seems like a wide discrepancy. The Bisons -- makes my grammar skin crawl, but there is a fun little story behind the plural -- won both RS meetings quite easily and has taken the past five overall vs. FGCU. The Eagles had to play Wednesday to advance, beating league doormat North Alabama, but generally not a good team away from Fort Myers.

You will want to be a bit careful betting the NHL early today with the trade deadline, but I don't fret the Red Wings in that regard as they will only be adding (did trade for David Perron on Thursday) and likely giving up draft picks. Florida looks utterly worn out from three straight runs to the Stanley Cup Final. It has lost four straight and ... it's over regarding the playoffs. Seems quite likely that former Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky, in the final year of his contract, is dealt today to Montreal, Edmonton or Vegas. The Wings owe us after folding last time out in blowing a 3-1 third-period lead and losing to the Golden Knights.

This game has playoff implications with the Hornets just two games behind the Heat in the Eastern Conference standings. The Hornets even have a shot at grabbing a top six seed if they continue to play well. With them blowing out so many teams lately, Brandon Miller has only averaged 26 minutes over their last seven games. Still, he scored at least 22 points in four of them. The Heat play at the fastest pace in the league, so if Miller can play closer to his season average of 30 minutes in what could be a more competitive game, he could blow past this line.
